You may be talking about me. But I think you mean Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson.

When I grew up in the 1960's Bob Wilson's son was my best friend, so I hung around their house quite a bit. Bob was (and still is) a very pleasant and soft spoken man. We still visit Bob and his family periodically. I rarely met Arno, and barely remember him.

This is how I remember them from the 60's. Bob is in the back.

Exactly. They see it as a gap which can be filled with magic (or an un-named intelligent designer... which in infinite regress is essentially the same as magic). This why we see such desperate blindness in their arguments.

Thankfully no. This was at time when we were probably a little too young to accomplish any real work.

Most of our time was spent catching frogs in the local swamp and collecting fossilized sharks teeth in the creek.

@rosborne979,
I live perhaps 5 minutes from where that radio telescope used to stand, where did you grow up? Now only the plaque remains. http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/17gnopbjyr3injpg/original.jpg

@DNA Thumbs drive,
I grew up in Holmdel on Spring Valley Dr.

There is a brook near you called Ramanessin Brook which is chock full of fossilized sharks teeth. All you need to do is [wait for good weather and then] wade into the brook and look on the little sand bars and you will be able to find the teeth (and sometimes other fossils). That whole area is a great fossil resource.

I'm sorry to hear that the antenna is gone. Are other antenna's still up there on telegraph hill?

@rosborne979,
heres a pic of the hornscope from 2007. If it was removed it was rther recent, perhaps during Sandy?

Hmmm, I wonder if DNA Thumbs really knows where he lives? Smile

Anyway, if it's gone that's too bad. It did look a little run down, but I thought they would try to preserve something like that.

The actual work took place on Crawford Hill, which is not located near the main Bell Labs complex, which was known to the local engineers as the "Black Box" facility.

Crawford Hill, and the Horn Antenna and the building where my father worked and where Bob worked is at 791 Holmdel Rd, Holmdel NJ. I just checked the Google Map for that area and I still see the Horn Antenna in the photo. Unfortunately there is no date on the photo. But it looks fairly recent. Maybe the antenna is still there and DNA Thumbs is simply looking in the wrong spot.

If I want to find out for sure I could Email Bob, I'm sure he would know if it's been removed for some reason.

@rosborne979,
It was still there in May, at least it's in the background of pics from the 50th anniversary.

Yes! Smile But any time I go down there I have to get in the brook and look for sharks teeth, so it may be better to wait until springtime.

The best time for Shark Teeth hunting is in June when the winter has had a chance to dislodge more sediment from the banks, but after the water levels have dropped enough from the snow melt so that the sand banks are exposed.

I bet it's still there. DNA must be mistaken somehow. Maybe he's seeing something over at the Black Box facility.

@farmerman,
I just remembered, when we use the infinitive term " to cap" in New Jersey, it means something entirely different thn in the gas fields. Capping means to put a "lid" on a gas well and to seal it in place.
