I'm very proud of you both!

You've already passed the hardest part. The rest will be much easier.

My husband quit smoking immediately when he was diagnosed with stage 3 throat cancer at the age of 40. We're lucky he's still alive. (It's been
11 years, so we're not so tense anymore.) His cancer was smoking-related. Otherwise he was in perfect health...ideal weight, etc. He almost lost the chance to see and know his son. I was 8 months pregnant at the time, and he had to go through a risky surgery and a very tough course of radiation therapy. He joked with friends that quitting wasn't so tough...you just have to be on heavy-duty painkillers for the first two weeks!

Seriously...I just asked him what the key was to being able to quit. He says it's avoiding those situations where you always had to have a cigarette. For him, that was being on the phone (he learned to scribble with a pencil instead of holding a cigarette)...and drinking beer. He switched to Coke and says that was enough. It was something about the taste of cigarettes and beer. Anyway, it will be different things for you, but the principle still applies.

Aristotle solved the quit smoking dilemma by keeping his mouth full of stones.

I'm glad things worked out for you and your man Eva. That must have been tough news to hear. I probably wasn't that far off. I'm 36 and I only recently started bending my behavior. I generally order red wine instead of beer these days if I'm drinking, and that's really not that often anyway. I just got tired of that about a year ago. I won't be drinking any alcohol until I'm sure this battle is won. I eliminated all sugar products from my diet 6 or 8 months ago (ice cream + soda = 35 pounds). Now, being told I'm "worth it"; I felt so inspired I went downstairs and did a 30 minute workout and another 20 on the treadmill, then 20 sitting on my ass in that really hot little room (no steam= sauna?). Now, not only would I like a cigarette... I feel like I'm going to die. Rolling Eyes
(not really, just really tired).

Anyway, that makes 4 days, no cheating, no worries, no fear. I'm starting to feel confident the cigarette's asses are kicked! Twisted Evil

This work was way overdue. I wonder why I waited so long. Thanks again to all you wonderful people for your support. I am truly moved.
Go Squinney!

Stones might work if you don't swallow. Smile

Thanks BBB. We ought to get together for coffee sometime. (But no cigarette.)

WTG Bill. Just a few days more and you can start feeling, as well as thinking, success Smile

O'Bill and Squinney... You're fighting the good fight.

I just quit myself. I quit on Mother's Day, May 9th, which coincidentally is also my mother's birthday. So I have now been cigarette free for over a month. I changed my diet the month before that, no sugar, white flour ect. I have lost over 20 pounds and for the first time in a long, long time...I don't hurt, anywhere.

I'm so proud of both of you and I hope you can stem those nasty cravings. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Good Luck!

Ceili, all tribute to you for keeping it quiet and keeping it up... if I kept things like that quiet, I'd cheat!

I shall look forward to meeting all the NON smokers when I come to the US; oh maybe that will turn them back into smokers Sad

Ceili Darling, good for you! I was just wondering whatever happened to you. Thank you for sparing me the trouble of starting the "whatever happened to our beloved Ceili", thread. I'm glad to hear it was lots of good stuff! Like Clary suggested, if I'd have kept quiet; I would have cheated (threw in the towel to be more accurate). So tell me... a month in, is that ass kicked?
Congratulations! You must feel fantastic! Do tell.

OB's stinking cigar avatar
What do you say, gang, shall we set a goal of 10 days without smoking will be celebrated by OB getting rid of his stinking cigar avatar and replacing it with a new one that reflects his new healthy status?

Foxfyre, what a great idea to have coffee with you. When Dys and Diane get moved into their new house (one mile from mine) in Albuquerque in the middle of July, should we all get together for coffee at my house?
