At what point does pride become a bad thing?

Lash - don't just listen - all angles will be appreciated! I agree with so many who've posted here that pride needs to be balanced - it can be a good thing or a bad thing or some combo of the two.

MellowG - I am not taking it in a bad way. I wish you the best too. I wish everybody the best, even at my own expense.

Pride has fueled several explosions of my own. Only when I feel that someone is unjustly disregarding me in something that I feel I know a lot about. I only truely saw red when I lived in Georgia. I got that pat on the head waaaay too often down there. I almost got in a barroom brawl with a guy over a dart game.

littlek--
You are one tough fairy! (Or ballerina?)

If you care to emote--
How did pride nearly propel you into a barroom brawl? And, I'm in Georgia. Just tell me who it was....

I'm a tough fairy - I like that, mind if I keep it?
(although seeing my avatar as a ballarina is wildly funny to me)

I was on a dart team, we were playing a final tournament match at a bar I worked at. The dart boards abutted the pool tables so the nearest one was to be unused while we played darts. Some guys started to rack balls on the near table, I asked them to wait until we were done. They continued to rack, I told them this time. The guy said "what the f are you gonna do about it?" and I lost it. I was crawling over the table, finger in his face. His buddy moved to stand behind him, hands up. Bad scene. I crawled back down and got re-enforcements. Thing is, the bulk of the staff and all of the owners were men. They kinda kept an eye on the situation, but didn't help me out.

Very insightful, and glad YOU said it.

Someone seems to have dabbled with littlek's (I think).(We're organizing a posse now.)

We've mentioned that warped pride can mingle with self-worth (self-esteem). I think we focused on too much pride, and its effects on us, but not much about the other side.

Valid observation.

Are pride and self-esteem intertwined?

(So much for the side-line.)

pride and self-esteem HAVE to be entwined, no?

How about pride as a defensive manuever for low self-esteem?

Only the lowliest, common redneck would face off with a woman.

Do you think it was pride, or just anger? You were rudely provoked. I realize he 'called you out', and maybe pride may have propelled some people, but anger would've been the contributing factor in that instance for many people in that situation.

I guess I would have just been really pissed that they were so thoughtless while a game was going on. Was it your pride in how well you were doing at darts that set that fire under you to say something to them?

It was pride-based anger at being disregarded.
