I never realized what a big deal side sitting was. I've done it - usually not, but sometimes with my hubby.

Any way Tom Brady was caughter side sitting and he is being made fun of as a result.

So is side-sitting a no-no?

If interested in the article -
Apparently Tom Brady isn’t perfect. Go figure. You can’t really be perfect when you choose to sit on the same side as your significant other at dinner (breakfast, lunch, fourth meal, whatever).

Seriously, you’re better than this, Tom. At least I think you’re better than this. Don’t do this.

Don’t ever do this.

Or do, at least you’re helping make common folks like myself feel better about our lives. Maybe every millionaire athlete should sit same side. Maybe that should be the rules of the universe. Yeah, I like that idea.

@Linkat,
I 've never given much thought to that.

I 've heard that it has led to serious injuries
for the ladies on horseback; fx bones.

@OmSigDAVID,
Now that would be side saddle.

They do side sitting on TV alot - Senfeld has done it. I think most likely for ease of filming you can see both characters' faces easier.

@Linkat,
What the heck is side sitting? It sounds like a horse riding technique and that blurry photograph provides no useful information.

@Linkat,
Oh, Hell No! That's not as bad as letting your child walk three blocks to school in the morning.

When I was a kid,
ALL kids in my classes walked to school alone,
unless thay had friends with whom to walk.
That was paradigmatic.
It was more than 3 blocks for me.

@dalehileman,
Might not be everyday, Dale, but I've seen it myself. Not only that, I've seen couples walking side by side. In the seedier parts of town they might even hold hands.

@Linkat,
If I am with someone I care about, I side sit with them (although I have never heard the term before). Otherwise the table gets in the way of smooching.

I am surprised that people are lame enough to care.

A lawyer, a doctor and a priest and on the deck of a sinking ship, when the doctor says:

There's not going to be enough room for everyone, what will we do about the children?

The lawyer replies: F*ck the children!

So the priest asks: Do you think there'll be time?

@tsarstepan,
I thought it was common knowledge - side sitting is when you go to a restuarant and instead of sitting across from one another in a booth you sit next to each other so that the other side remains empty-- in case of a couple -- like Tom sitting next to his wife instead of across.

@maxdancona,
Yeah it is lame -- but I heard them talking about it on the radio -- the djs asked do you ever side sit -- and the answer was no, not unless they are waiting for another couple. Sitting across means you can make eye contact when talking. They were making fun of Tom for doing this.

And then I do a search on it and viola a sports media saying the same thing.

Side sitting is acceptable, as long as....." there's no patty fingers" - Mickaleen Flynn (The Quiet Man, 1952).
