@FBM,
10 stories, within 1,000,000 stories, does not apply to REALITY - it applies to your VERY SMALL MINORITY-BASED REALITY, which is driven on EMOTION AND FEAR; NOT REASON AND FREEDOM.

@One Eyed Mind,
Not even close. There are hundreds and hundreds of stories about police brutality, unjustified homicides, militarization of the police force, etc etc. Not only that, there are reams of empirical studies and the resultant statistics and other data that I haven't tapped yet. Just waiting for you to catch up. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/DinahFyre/bored.gif

If you think any of the data I've posted by the CIA, FBI, DOJ, etc etc, is fake, by all means go directly to the sources. I've provided links for all of them. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/DinahFyre/facepalm.gif

Looks like a couple of A2K'ers in this thread still have one career opportunity open to them...

http://politicalblindspot.com/police-officially-refuse-to-hire-applicants-with-high-iq-scores/

Quote:
Police Officially Refuse To Hire Applicants With High IQ Scores

It’s long been rumored amongst law enforcement critics, but did you know that police departments officially disqualify high-scoring applicants? That’s not to say that all cops are stupid… Just that if you’re too smart, the police simply won’t hire you.

The policy became solidified as a concrete federal ruling almost a decade and a half ago with little fanfare from the mainstream media. Back in 1999, a Federal judge dismissed a lawsuit by a police applicant who was barred from the New London, Connecticut police force. The reason for the disqualification was literally because he had scored “too high” on an intelligence test. The department made it clear, they didn’t want the bottom of the barrel in terms of intelligence, but they didn’t want anyone “too smart” either.

The ruling made public in September of the same year, with the ruling judge Peter C. Dorsey of the United States District Court in New Haven confirming that it was in fact the case that the plaintiff, Robert Jordan, 48, who has a bachelor’s degree in literature, was denied an opportunity to even interview for a job with the New London Police Department, solely because of his high test scores.

Judge Dorsey, however, ruled that Mr. Jordan that there was no protection offered to intelligent people from discriminatory hiring practices by individual police departments. Why? Because, Dorsey explained, it was proven that police departments held all to this same standard and thus rejected all applicants who scored high.

So next time you cross paths with a cop and wonder how someone so stupid could get hired by their department, you now know that their stupidity might be the very thing that qualified them for the job.

@FBM,
That's something I'd suspected for a long time.

In all fairness, though, it must be admitted that there is such a thing as being "overqualified" for any number of jobs.

@Lustig Andrei,
This is true, but I'd hope being smart wouldn't be an overqualification for any job. Seems like any occupation would want the smartest possible people. Why would police forces (or anyone else) prefer people who are less skilled thinkers? It boggles the imagination. Smarter people are more likely to upset the status quo? If so, wouldn't it be most likely in favor of an improvement?

The entire point of racism is making the minority NOT THE SYSTEM. You prove racism exists by your own words.

@FBM,
I haven't really searched too much, but so far I found this:

Quote:
A US man has been rejected in his bid to become a police officer for scoring too high on an intelligence test.

Robert Jordan, a 49-year-old college graduate, took an exam to join the New London police, in Connecticut, in 1996 and scored 33 points, the equivalent of an IQ of 125.

But New London police interviewed only candidates who scored 20 to 27, on the theory that those who scored too high could get bored with police work and leave soon after undergoing costly training.

Mr Jordan launched a federal lawsuit against the city, but lost.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York upheld a lower court’s decision that the city did not discriminate against Mr Jordan because the same standards were applied to everyone who took the test.

He said: “This kind of puts an official face on discrimination in America against people of a certain class. I maintain you have no more control over your basic intelligence than your eye color or your gender or anything else.”

He said he does not plan to take any further legal action and has worked as a prison guard since he took the test.

The average score nationally for police officers is 21 to 22, the equivalent of an IQ of 104, or just a little above average.

The court's reasons seems a little flaky as well.

If you are looking for bad cops it shouldent be very hard in a population of more than 1,000,000. But my question is would we be better off if we did away with all policemen? I know David we should all buy us an izzu for protection but some of us dont get an erection thinking about killing someone. I think we should also look at how many policemen have saved someone from being shot, and robbed, and beaten up by someone who dosent have a conscience. Police do more good as a group than bad. Sure when you see a cop abusing his authority by all means turn him in to the papers and media. Cops will defend other cops even when they know they are no good. Its a club, just like the military, and religious. But as a group they do more good than bad.

@parados,
MINORITY DATA, CASES AND EVENTS, NOT PEOPLE, Parados.

MINORITY DOES NOT = BLACK PEOPLE

MINORITY = 20 cases out of 549375034534 cases.

The MAJORITY CASES still contain BLACK PEOPLE, therefore it's not racism and even THEN, I would have to have the intent to hate against another man's skin color to be racist, not just make a statement that YOU DEEM RACIST - IF ANYTHING, that makes YOU the racist; YOU'RE the one that is paying too much attention to color, rather than the PICTURE THAT CONTAINS ALL COLORS.

Flaky, indeed. And to think that those with low IQ's get promoted to captain, chief, etc, where policy is made. It explains a lot, really.

@RABEL222,
I don't think anybody here is proposing to get ridof police altogether. At least I'm not. But since the police carry guns (and now even fully automatic military rifles) and have people's lives in their hands, it seems reasonable to demand some accountability on their part. It also seems reasonable to demand a set of checks on their behavior when it violates constitutional rights. And reasonable to demand a system that removes bad cops and prevents them from just joining another department in another precinct or state. The AMA has such a system for bad doctors, who also have people's lives in their hands, so why not something like that for cops? Time and time again, we see reports of cops who brutalize or kill, only to be given a tw0-week paid vacation, then returned to duty or at worst, given a desk job. That's reprehensible.

Supreme Audacity: Baltimore Cop Sucker Punches Unsuspecting Man, Charges Him with Assault

“There’s a pattern here. First, these officers are stripping our clients of their dignity, their rights, then charging them with an assault that they themselves have perpetrated.”
A video recently surfaced showing Baltimore police Officer Vincent Cosom senselessly attacking a man on the side of the street, before arresting him for “assaulting an officer”.

The suspect had not gotten physical with the police or anyone else, in fact, the newly released footage shows that the officers were the only ones being aggressive. Now, armed with new evidence, the victim of the assault is filing a lawsuit against officer Cosom.

32-year-old Kollin Truss was approached by officer Cosom when he was standing outside of a liquor store at the corner of Greenmount Ave and North Ave, in Baltimore, this past June. Cosom reportedly threatened Truss with arrest or legal penalties for loitering. In the video, the two can be seen exchanging words, and then Truss can be seen walking into the store and walking back out moments later with a woman.

When they exited the store, Cosom was just outside of the door waiting for them, and at that point the two can be seen exchanging more words on the video. Truss’s female friend can be seen attempting to pull him away from Cosom, and then Cosom pushed the woman, although she had done nothing but attempt to diffuse the situation.

Minutes later, the video captured a large group of police officers surrounding the two near a bus stop, where Cosom lunged at Truss from several feet away, hitting him in the face multiple times as Truss stood there with his hands down. After the attack, Truss was subdued by multiple officers and thrown against a nearby bus stop billboard. After the incident Truss was charged with assaulting an officer, even though it was the officer that assaulted him.

“There’s a pattern here. First, these officers are stripping our clients of their dignity, their rights, then charging them with an assault that they themselves have perpetrated. It’s the same pattern, they stripped (him of his) rights and forced him to submit. This is not Baltimore justice, it’s Baltimore horror,” Truss’s Attorney Tony Garcia said.

Cosom currently remains on the job and has not received any disciplinary action for the assault. A spokesman for the police department said that there was an internal investigation taking place into the actions of officer Cosom.

Another "internal investigation." Wonder how that'll turn out? Will he go to jail or prison for assault? That's what would happen to any one of us who did the same thing...

Tasing a Non-violent Handcuffed Man Multiple Times is “Following Procedure”

Richland, SC — A video posted to Facebook, shows a seemingly sadistic Richland county Sheriff’s deputy allegedly taser a handcuffed man, who was not violent, at a local BP gas station.

The video starts with a man, Charles James Lang Jr., 25, sitting on the hood of the police cruiser, in handcuffs. He is simply asking the deputy why he is being arrested.

Apparently the deputy did not want any part of answering these questions. He then told Lang, “If you don’t put your face on the hood of my car, you are getting tased. Last warning.” He then shot the handcuffed man with a taser, bringing him to his knees and eventually falling face first onto the pavement.

Once on the ground Lang, again, is posing absolutely zero threat to the deputy and appears to be answering his questions. Lang appears to simply make an effort to sit up and once again the taser happy deputy sends another 50,000 volts through the already incapacitated man.

Eventually Lang was arrested for public disorderly conduct and was also charged with resisting arrest after ‘not complying with the officer.’

The deputy exhibited absolutely zero humanity as Lang was treated like a dog the entire time.

Departments across the country have explicit guidelines stating that tasers cannot be used “escort or prod” suspects in handcuffs as it can and does lead to death. Apparently this is not the case in Richland County, SC.

According to Lt. Curtis Wilson, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman, the deputy followed proper procedure during the taser incident.

Wilson also stated that they have not released the details of what led up to the arrest, nor have they released the name of the deputy involved.

According to Wilson, once internal affairs has finished their investigation they will turn their findings over to the citizen’s advisory board who will review the findings. The board will then go to Sheriff Leon Lott with their recommendations and he will review the incident in its entirety.

What do you think? Was sending 50,000 volts through this man, twice, necessary?
