Left after, what? About four years of daily or near-daily posting in aid of her sense of righteous duty and personal holiness.

But in any case, if you bump into a movement conservative of that sort who is ever "satisfied", I'd recommend a check for hidden vodka bottles.

She and I exchanged a lot of emails back then as well as engaging on a2k regularly. She was surely a kind person, and civil in a rather formal or shallow way. But she was a lunatic.

Whackeye is a source of endless merriment. I can't claim credit for Whackeye, someone else came up with that, but i cracked up the first time i saw it, and have used it ever since. He's about the biggest poseur at this site, and that's saying a lot. He began his career here by advocating "sexual freedom" for females under the age of 18 (oh yeah, 14 year old girls just dream of some hairy, sweaty 30-something guy with a beer gut doing the wild thing with them), and opposing statutory rape laws. I used to call him Rapist Boy, but he's toned down that rhetoric. Another favorite of his is to claim that his freedom of speech is being denied. That despite posting here on an almost daily basis. One needs to constantly remind him that he is posting here and not being censored, that freedom of speech doesn't mean anyone has to listen to you, nor does it mean anyone has to take you seriously.

Chicago Joe can remember it as he wishes, but it was because of her even temper and lack of the talent of insult that the bullies ganged up on her. They were also quite fond of "gang-bashing her," often led by a much esteemed legend of yore.

It was a very low point in this forum's history and while clearly she has only left A2K and not life itself, it is still unseemly to continue to heap on the insults after driving her off. A pathetic attempt to rationalize shitty behavior.

You're right, there is a large body of evidence with which to identify that behavior and the culprits who engaged in it.

I don't think you could have stopped it. I know I certainly couldn't and I tried to shame the bullies into "picking on someone their own size," but that's not how bullies play. The amusing thing is that then, and obviously still today, they thought they were getting the best of her.

Perhaps he is remembering most of all his own posts.

I am quite sure that JoeFromChigago would not have been a party to the lynching, and that any of his posts to her would have been devoted to logic and facts.

When it comes to defending an innocent person from a lynch mob, I'm something of a ruthless psychopath.

I managed to put an end to all the cruelty on a2k that was being vented towards Amanda Knox for instance, and considering the hatemongers who opposed me that was quite an achievement.

Sorry, that post was confusing in that I was quoting Tico, not forwarding an observation/opinion. She was an ideologue of the worst sort - incapable of flexibility and, as I noted, incapable utterly of admitting error. Her politics and her theology were set in stone which made her about as stupid as a stone. I recall her glib dismissal of Elaine Pagel's scholarship and that was just one of a thousand such instances - she simply could not go there because it was theologically verboten landscape within her brand of anti-intellectual, literalist southern protestantism.

And anyone who might imagine that she didn't delight in her "victimization", in the face of which she stood so lonely and heroic at God's side, is being rather dull.
