French Prime Minister Manuel Valls on Sunday drew a direct line between the hatred of Israel – as seen in violent protests across France and elsewhere in the world against Operation Protective Edge in Gaza – and the never-ending hatred of Jews.

He spoke at a ceremony marking the 72nd anniversary of the Vel’ d’Hiv Roundup, a mass arrest of Jews in Paris by the French police, directed by German authorities, during the Second World War.

From July 16-17, 1942, more than 12,000 Jews from the Paris region, including 4,000 children, were taken into custody.

Of those, 7,000 victims were packed in desperate conditions into the Velodrome d’Hiver, an indoor sports stadium. Many were later transferred to Auschwitz and other death camps in Eastern Europe.

Each year, two ceremonies take place at the site of the stadium, built in 1909 and destroyed in 1959 – one on July 16 and the other on July 20.

This year, the anniversary fell in the middle of a wave of pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian demonstrations. Jewish leaders demanded the prohibition of a Muslim demonstration on July 16 in order to respect the memory of the Nazis’ victims. The demonstration took place, but others were banned last Saturday after a violent protest outside a Paris synagogue last week.

Honoring the Vel’ d’Hiv victims, Valls said, “The dishonor of France is to have been an accomplice of the occupier, to have sent men, women, children, to death because they were Jews.”

He commended former French president Jacques Chirac, who was the first to explicitly denounce the French collaboration with the Nazis.

The prime minister condemned the use of anti-Zionist rhetoric as a cover up of anti-Semitic opinions, and condemned “an anti-Semite who hides his hatred of the Jew behind an appearance of anti-Zionism and the hatred of Israel.”

Valls also condemned the “infamous jokes on the Shoah,” saying that “to insult the dead, to insult the survivors, is insulting France.”

Referring to a protest against Operation Protective Edge that took place on Saturday in Paris despite its prohibition, Valls said that “the unacceptable excess yesterday in Paris justifies all the more the decision to forbid [such demonstrations],” adding that, “ France will not allow provocative minds to feed... conflict between communities.”

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve also attended the ceremony, where he expressed his wish “that public space and freedom will not be taken hostage to feed the hatred.”

@BillRM,
Ok, but it still leaves the oppression of the Palestinians at the hands of the Zionists unresolved.

@InfraBlue,
Sorry but as long as they are as a society are turning to mass murders who give a **** about them?

It kind of like feeling sorry for the Nazis death camps guards and their families.

Most of the "oppression" is a direct response to their own actions such as the GAZA being shut down and check point everywhere.

The moment Israel open the border and removed the checkpoints they will be having bombs going off in the middle of their nation.

All they need to do is to start acting in a sane and civil manner and they will be able to achieve far more then by what they had been doing for the last half century.

Do you reality think for a second that they will gain anything at all by their current behaviors no matter how many Jewish haters cry for them?

@BillRM,
The Palestinians don't get the chance to turn into anything. The Israelis are the mass murderers. The Israelis are acting just like the Nazis did when they stormed the Warsaw ghetto.

@izzythepush,
And it makes one wonder if the Jews in the ghettos of Poland had missiles, and they knew they were robbed of their property and freedoms, whether they would have used those hit or miss missiles against the Nazis.

They're trying to have it both ways.

LOL those missiles are not military weapons they are terror and murders devices and would have done nothing at all to the Nazis but would likely had just killed other poles.

Somehow I give the very brave Jews in those ghettos more credit then that they would think like the murderous Palestinians that random murders would be helpful to them.

@BillRM,
Doesn't matter what kind of weapon they are; would they have used it? Would those weapons have killed innocent people?

@cicerone imposter,
They are not weapons in any normal sense of the term once more they are random murder devices and no I do not think for a moment the Jews in the ghettos would dream that random murders of mainly fellow Poles would gain them anything.

You're avoiding my question. My first question was,

Do you understand simple English concepts such as "doesn't matter what kind of weapon they are?"

Okay, would the Jews in those ghettos considered using those crude civilian murder devices?

Of course not as I already stated a number of times.........

You know the Palestinians are very very lucky to have pull the **** they had done for decades on Jews instead of any other people including Americans on this earth.

Any other people including Americans would have long ago wiped them off the face of the earth and any remaining population of their would had been spread to the four corners of the world.

@BillRM,
You have your history backwards, with your imagination working overtime about Palestinians pulling **** against the US.

No wonder you people are so confused! You don't even understand historical evidence, and how the US has continued to support the terrorist state of Israel against the Palestinians.

List of the UN resolutions concerning Israel and Palestine
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

UN Security Council Chamber in New York.
The following is a list of United Nations resolutions that concern both Israel and Palestine and bordering states such as Lebanon. As of 2013, Israel had been condemned in 45 resolutions by United Nations Human Rights Council since its creation in 2006—the Council had resolved almost more resolutions condemning Israel than on the rest of the world combined. The 45 resolutions comprised almost half (45.9%) of all country-specific resolutions passed by the Council, not counting those under Agenda Item 10 (countries requiring technical assistance).[1] From 1967 to 1989 the UN Security Council adopted 131 resolutions directly addressing the Arab–Israeli conflict. In early Security Council practice, resolutions did not directly invoke Chapter VII. They made an explicit determination of a threat, breach of the peace, or act of aggression, and ordered an action in accordance with Article 39 or 40. Resolution 54 determined that a threat to peace existed within the meaning of Article 39 of the Charter, reiterated the need for a truce, and ordered a cease-fire pursuant to Article 40 of the Charter. Although the phrase "Acting under Chapter VII" was never mentioned as the basis for the action taken, the chapter's authority was being used.[2]

The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a number of resolutions saying that the strategic relationship with the United States encourages Israel to pursue aggressive and expansionist policies and practices.[3] The 9th Emergency Session of the General Assembly was convened at the request of the Security Council when the United States blocked efforts to adopt sanctions against Israel.[4] The United States responded to the frequent criticism from UN organs by adopting the Negroponte doctrine.

Is it not fitting that the terrorist USA supports the terrorist Israel, CI?

And what of your finger pointing at Israel in order to deflect from the USA's much much larger worldwide terrorist profile?

It is also interesting to note that the Israel does a remarkable job of protecting their children from would be murderers throwing over a thousand missiles at them armed with 600 hundred pounds warheads with ball bearings added.

The Palestinians on the other hand placed their children on top of military targets such as missile launchers in order to be able to made propaganda points over their deaths.

Would the second paragraph above be considered a war crime by the World Court?

All of a sudden Foofie is interested in war crimes. Why would an avid supporter of USA war crimes, genocides, terrorism suddenly focus on the maundering of another USA stooge?

There is more than enough factual information to concern yourself with regarding USA and Israeli war crimes to get your panties in a twist about bill's fantasies.

@izzythepush,
Sure, izzy, the Israelis implemented these checkpoints, not to prevent terrorists from bringing bombs and weapons into Israel and the fact that they found an explosive device in an ambulance doesn't prove a thing. They did it to kill Palestinian babies, pregnant women and people having heart attacks.

And they don't warn Palestinians to evacuate buildings they have targeted for bombing and Hamas doesn't use civilians as human shields.

You know it's OK for you to get off of the Palestinian Propaganda Train every now and then. I think they'll still let you keep that Keffiyeh you wear to disrupt London concerts by Israeli musicians.

Speaking of the Academic and Cultural boycott of Israel, can there be a more perfect demonstration of the pathetic reincarnation of the 70's Radical Chic?

The list of participating artists is underwhelming and led by over-the hill former stars desperately seeking relevance and familiar sounds and smells of the good old days. As boycotts go, it's a sad one.

The rhetoric they spout at every opportunity is straight from the Palestinian propaganda machine ( the originators of the BDS movement) and demonstrates they have made no effort to educate themselves on any aspect of the conflict beyond what is fed to them by sources like The Electronic Intifada.

Not content to simply make their case and ask artists to decide on their own if they will or will not participate BDS organizers seek to pressure those who decide to perform into changing their mind. Despite the BDS call for a letter, e-mail, and tweet campaign to stop Alicia Keyes from conducting her scheduled concert, and the resultant wave of condemnations, insults and death-threats, Keyes was in Israel performing earlier this month.

In an ironic turn of events that apparently sailed right over the heads of Roger Waters and Elvis Costello, in addition to the usual rash of condemnations and death-threats an artist scheduled to perform in Israel can expect from BDS supporters, Paul McCartney received the following warning from terrorist Omar Bakri Mohammed:

“Thus Paul McCartney is the enemy of every Muslim. We have what we call ‘sacrifice’ operatives who will not stand by while he joins in a celebration of their oppression. If he values his life Mr. McCartney must not come to Israel. He will not be safe there. The sacrifice operatives will be waiting for him.”

Quote:
When singer Moby was interviewed on Army Radio shortly before he performed in Israel, he said that the intensity of the attacks against him before he came to Israel made him suspect that this wasn't an objective movement that was concerned with people's welfare, but with something dark and dubious.

The world is watching. That you people are so crass will not be overlooked by the people of this world.

Soon, people will wonder why we were all so disgusted with the holocaust.

This is a pretty remarkable comment by the excitable C.I.

Maybe he'll care to elaborate.

What do the oh so crass people need to concern themselves with as regards to the people of the world not overlooking their support of Israel. This has the sound of a threat. If it is, it's ludicrous coming from C.I. but what else can it be intended to mean? We're in for a real scolding at some future date from the people of the world?

Why have you been disgusted with the Holocaust, C.I.? Interesting choice of words.
