I remembered at the end of an episode they both would light up. I had forgotten the brand, so it was a bit of a guess.

Nope, not Groucho. It was a sort of comedy quiz show on radio. I'm not certain, but it may have gotten on tv also. I can't recall the host or any of the regulars by name.
Hint #3. The theme song had the name of the show in it. A few other words were "... to be dumb, to be dunce ..."
