Just watched one of the adults bring a kill into the back corner of the nesting box and eat it. Then it walked all around the old homestead, pecking at things. It was easy to imagine that the bird was reminiscing. Then it sat on the ledge, looking out at the water, for a long, long time before flying off.

An update from the site:

(6/9) Ok, here is the story on the fledglings from this year.

As most of you know Ryan was killed in an accident on the FDR when some well-meaning bird watchers tried to pick him up. We would like to let everyone who asked know that we do as much as we can to protect the birds, but horrible accidents like this can happen being so close to the high way.

I did some research on the subject of injured birds. In the more.. section of this news posting please see the instructions for handling an injured fledgling.

"Fast" Eddie has been returned to the nest with an injured wing but he is on the mend and should be good as new in the next few weeks.

Jacquline has also been in a bit of trouble of her own. Last week the DEP and NYC Fire Department found her hurt near the building and took her to The Raptor Trust in New Jersey to be treated for her injuries. Please see the address below for the site.

Thanks to everyone who has expressed concern about the babies.
