Somewhere in Central Park there is a very happy statue, brimming with satisfaction at the Return of the Falcon.
Yep, it's really hard to mourn for pigeons.
saw the falcon clan on PBS last night.
people actually woke up before dawn so they could witness the youngins taking flight for the first time.
interesting how conditioned they are to human proximity... much like city pigeons, i guess!
Phoenix I have been watching the PBS show about the hawks in NYC too. It is great to see the birds and the New Yorkers appreciating them.
The babies have been named:
Jacquline, Ryan and 'Fast Eddie' (uh oh)
All three cams are back on line.
On no, not Fast Eddie. Poor Jackie or maybe not he might have to be fast to keep up with her. They look pretty frisky this morning.
Fast Eddie's a great name for a falcon! I'm getting a kick out of watching them stretching their wings the last couple of days.
Anybody care to guess when they'll begin to fly?
It just scares me no end to watch them traipse about on the side porch, the one that drops off into nothingness.
Don'tcha jis love the little black feathers that are beginning to really show!
joe (what a softie) nation
Scares me, too. This afternoon one of them tumbled out of the nesting box and almost went clear over the edge of the porch before it regained its balance at the last second.
That's when I clicked off.
Whew.
If one of them does fall, I hope it's not when I'm watching. I tune in now and hold my breath until I count three of them. I can just imagine what the parents must be thinking....
"EDDIE! <squawk> GET THOSE TAILFEATHERS AWAY FROM THE EDGE! How many times do I have to tell you, it's not a GAME!"
<squawk, squawk>
"And it's NOT FUNNY, either."
Eva--
You obviously speak falcon.
I just discovered this thread. Thanks, Joe.
Hey Edgar! Aren't they cute?
I start my day with them, watch them for ten minutes or so while the coffee perks, then I start reading the news, oboy...... I punch them up againg before I head off for work, I feel good all day......

Hey, no cameras this morning!!
Still in the dark this morning.
Whew! They're back. All three cameras are working again, and all three babies are still there. One of the parents has posted himself/herself firmly next to the edge.
The babies have really grown. The lightest-colored one is almost the size of the parent.
it's amazing how long i can sit and stare at the kids
Here's the link again to the nesting site:
