Yes, it is. For yet another year. It was originally designed as a chance for people who don't normally follow football to have something to contribute to the chatter around the water cooler in January.
Last year we had 22 or so players.
Here, briefly, is how it works: we start with the Wildcard Games in early January. There will four of them. Your task is to post which teams you think will win. Pretty simple, eh?
After that we will the put up the brackets for the assorted playoff games through the Super Bowl. Your job is to predict - in one sitting - which teams will advance.
So your effort comes down to investing a total of, perhaps, 10 whole minutes of your time!
We have points awarded along the way for correct picks. I will post those once I remember what they are.
Please watch this space for additional details which will come out on about Monday. December 30th.
If you are interested in playing you might, but you don't have to, so indicate here.
@realjohnboy,
I indicate. I need to contribute my usual misguided choices.
@realjohnboy,
I nodded in the direction of the computer to indicate my willingness to play. But when neither you nor the computer gave any indication of acknowledgement, I decided to type this response.
@realjohnboy,
I throw in my pure guesses. Just for sheer awesome's sake, I'll predict the Patriots to win it all. Please remind me when the wildcard selection is afoot.
Count me in.
The Super Bowl will feature the New England Patriots vs the Carolina
Panthers. The Patriots win 24-21 on a last minute field goal by Stephen
Gostkowski.
Here is my understanding of the schedule for our game...
Dec 29: Final game of the regular season
Dec 30: Wild Card games set
Jan 4: ACTION REQUIRED - picks due by 1 pm or so for Wild Card games
Jan 4-5th: 4 Wild Card Games
Jan 6th: Play Off games set through to the end of the Super Bowl
Jan 11th: ACTION REQUIRED - picks due for ALL remaining games by the start of the FIRST game on the 11th.
Y'all are a tough audience!
"Sure, what the hell"
"Well, why the heck not"
I'm underwhelmed by the show of enthusiasm.
My crack team of writers are hard at work trying to come up with up a message that we can use to sell you on why you should enroll in this.
@realjohnboy,
hmmm
you may need to girly up the message
@Rockhead,
that's up to rjb (just reflecting on the respondents who responded mmmmmmmm lackadaisically)
@realjohnboy,
The winner gets a date with you, the loser gets a date with me...
Your objective in this game is to successfully pick the Super Bowl winner. If you can do that, you win.
But most of us won't be able to do that. Deep sighs.
Not to worry! There is more to this game!
You collect points along the way for correct picks. You may not get the Super Bowl champion but you can end up with MORE CUMULATIVE POINTS than most other players.
Here is how it works:
- You get 1 point for each correct pick in the 4 Wild Card games...
- Plus you get 4 points if you get all 4 games right.
Then, you get 2 points for each game you get right in the first round of the playoffs...
and 4 points for predicting the winners in next round
and 8 points for correctly choosing the Super Bowl champion.
I tried this formula out last season. As the huckster-in-chief, my objective was/is to keep folks interested. I have only one minor adjustment this time.

Are you ready to play? Great!
The Wild Card games will be next weekend. Your task is to predict the winner in these for matches.
Sat, Jan 4, 4:30: Kansas City Chiefs @ Indianapolis Colts
Sat, Jan 4, 8:30: New Orleans Saints @ Philadelphia Eagles
Sun, Jan 5, 1:00: San Diego Chargers @ Cincinnati Bengels
Sun, Jan 5, 4:30: San Francisco 49ers @ Green Bay Packers
Picks for ALL 4 games are due by 4;30 Sat. You are welcome to change your picks but you have to do so no later than the start of the 1st game.
You will get one green star (= 1 point) for each game plus you will receive a blue star (= 4 points) if you are successful in picking the winner in every one of the games.
Good luck to us all!
