Marmite is just a poor imitation of Vegemite.

Yeah, ok, great.

Again with the generalizations.

Can you describe the difference without just saying vegemite is bettter?

No. After 48 years of eating vegemite, nothing else can cut it.

@Wilso,
I would think after 48 years of eating something, one would be able to describe and compare it.

Go ahead, ask me to describe 2 similar foods, and I'll blow your sox off comparing and contrasting.

Last time I ate marmite was on a boat off Phuket in 2009.

The only description I can give is that, if Vegemite is sex, then Marmite is sex with a condom. It's better than going without, but it's just not the same.

@tsarstepan,
I like marmite on toast, thinly spread. Also nice to add it to a sandwich with cheese or ham.

@margo,
I've had it, it's like safeway's own brand spread.

It's not as good.

Keep it in Oz, there people seem to appreciate it, but not here really no.

I lived with a couple of Kiwis who had it on everything.

To me the taste is more subtle than Marmite, easier to spread though.

As I am used to the flavour of Marmite I will continue using it, but if anytime it is not available then I know Vegemite would be a second best.

Bite your tongue, Bubbles!

Is Vegemite easily available in the UK? I'll be there is a cuppla weeks, and, if they insist it needs to go as a liquid for the flights, I'm screwed. Jars are too big.

I had a discussion at Toronto airport a few years back.. I'd forgotten to put it in my hold luggage, and got stopped at security. She was holding it up as if it was dangerous. I said, "C'mon, I'm Australian, we travel with Vegemite" and after a good few glares, she let me through!

@margo,
Vegemite was available when I lived with Kiwis.

it probably is now, but most supermarket's foreign range tends to be heavily in favour of East Europe and India.

@margo,
Ouch, I bit my tongue too hard. Shocked

I know there was a lot of Vegemite on the Asda shelf, so most likely easy to get some while you are here in the UK.

Maybe while you are then buying some Vegemite you could get yourself, Izzythepush and little bubbles a cream cake. Very Happy

"No, you're right, I'll have a bit of cake."
