@edgarblythe,
Sadly, I'm not surprised. I was furloughed in 1995 as was my husband. I'm retired since 1998, but the mister retired 7 years later and decided to work for a contractor. Surprise!!!! now he has been furloughed. I was reminded tonight about 1995, I stepped into an elevator with one older man. As the door closed, he said to me "Can you believe they are doing this to us?", I honestly don't remember what I said to him. But today I remember the of the look on his face, and I know exactly what he meant. We knew we were providing an important service, so why would Congress send us home. We both knew it was political muscle flexing. That forgotten individual and I were frustrated, we couldn't believe Senators and House members would behave in such an irresponsible fashion. We had work to do, but partisan clashes wanted everything defended.

Since then we have had opportunistic assholes trying to turn the clock back
200 years, because they want a simpler time. Time has never been simple, perhaps only simpleminded.

what is short lived? I say oct 27. that oct 17 date was before the 40% shutdown so I am thinking that the new default date is very near the end of the month. If Washington does not meet the oct 27 there will be hell to pay, but otherwise this squabbling will not hurt the economy much.

What happens if the Republicans pass the debt limit increase without trying to attach anything to it, but then continue to hold firm on the shutdown itself?

the lamestream press is claiming that thd R's will cave on both around the 15th, but I think your theory is much more likely. that is the big question, will the D's try to push the nation into default because the R's are still demanding to be heard? we hope not, but I am picturing the congress passing the debt limit bill, Obama vetoing it as he stomps his feet and smoke pours out of his ears, congress then in an overwhelmg bipartisan move overrides the veto at tells Obama that he just lost the right to hurl stones at congress about how useless they are.

not quite a prediction, but this could get oh so interesting!

Will the color white ever turn black? Only if the teabaggers get the power they seek.

@glitterbag,
They are trying every trick in the book to make this about Democrats, but only Republicans enjoy the pain they are causing. I am not truly a Democrat, but they are leaving me no choice where to stand.

Is that why the Obama administration is barricading open monuments and state parks? For the Republicans amusement? Is that why the Dems refuse to even consider the spending bills brought up by the House Republicans? Is that why the Obama Administration is trying to close a privately owned establishment in NC? So Republicans can enjoy the pain?

Get your head out of your ass Edgar. It's the Dems holding up the process because they are so butthurt that the Reps are using what the Constitution gave them to try to get the country on an even keel. Quit trying to lay all the blame on the Republican shoulders when there is a ton to be shared by both parties. There is no way you are so blind to see it.

Joseph Goebbels:
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

I could not agree more. The sobriquet, "Teabaggers," has a foul oder to the name, and Ted Cruz just simply stinks badly....especially to the Democrats and ordinary Americans who wish we did not have to live from crisis to crisis.

@McGentrix,
I answered most of that already. If you let the Republicans put in bills to pay this item and that item, instead of opening up the government, they can steadily leverage away all practical resistance. Then they could sit on a shut down until all their terms expired.
I also note the lamenting for monuments, but no word concerning the true human suffering that's unnecessarily being caused.

The true human suffering? What is that? Another bigger, better lie?
