We've got British troops here, French, Dutch, Canadian and Polish.
Why?
We are a NATO-country - joined French-German, Dutch-German and Polish-German brigades. The Canadians have left their garrisons here since a couple of years, but use US-facilities now. The US and British are still stationed in their former occupied zones (the British will leave in 2017).
So, the presence of NATO troops in Germany is not based on any potential threat that Germany poses to anyone. However, the Palestineans do pose a potential threat to Israel, in the opinion of Israel, I thought. So, Israeli troops in occupied Palestinean is for a different purpose.
Now, why do you suppose Germany became such a model of democracy and capitalism, not to mention productive and profitable? I believe, if the Palestineans could direct their energies in the same manner, Israel would be only too happy to have a successful neighbor, without occupying troops. Perhaps, too many people do not see the forest for the trees, in that rather than begrudging Israel its existence, follow the good role models of Germany and Japan. Perhaps, there is too much humiliation in accepting the peaceful existence of Israel in the Arab mindset? Could that correlate with intractable anti-Semitism. Heck, if Germany and Poland can become philo-Semitic, others should try. It should be less difficult? It might even be good for a nation's mental health?
