@Olivier5,
If I insulted with my use of "in a French way" I apologize. I shrug all the time, so I didn't really mean anything.

Personally I think the spying stuff is just too common for all countries to get all bothered about the US doing it when there is so much worse to talk about.

Speaking as a German who is also a permanent resident of the US, I think it's a mistake to frame this as an issue of the United States versus other countries. I think this is about out-of-control intelligence services around the world versus ordinary citizens around the world. To say that "other countries spy a lot; therefore we should, too" is to say that two wrongs make a right. And they don't.

@Thomas,
I know a lot of people in all countries are upset about the intelligence spying being done against citizens, I suppose I belittle the concern which gets people's backs up. I apologize once again. I just personally consider it the lesser of a bunch of worse evils. I read on the senate report where the CIA lied to the government and said the enhanced interrogations gleaned some information from a terrorist when it fact it was gotten from signals of some sort. (forget exactly, can look it up.) I assume the signals involved some sort of intelligence spying. Intelligence spying is also better than going to war with every country on earth which may have terrorist connections.

@revelette2,
It's not about spying, it's about mass data trawl, and there's no evidence that such activity has caught anyone.

It's like looking for a needle in a haystack, do you examine every bit of hay or invest in a really good magnet?

Only the US have the budgets/resources however to do it on the insane scale that NSA is doing,

@izzythepush,
If you have read through the past few pages, I have agreed with your assessment of which mass data spying does not seem to have worked.

No they don't. That's an old cliché. Out of topic too.

Not at all, and no need for an apology. I was just saying France has been targeted and it did not change the way we see the entire universe... The US war on terror trumping any and all foreign policy objectives, as well as the mass spying thing, come across as over-reactions to what is after all a rather minor terrorism problem.

That is why I suspect ulterior motives, in the case of the mass spying thing, just as there were ulterior motives in the war in Iraq. This can't be just because of terrorism. It would make no sense if it was just an anti-terrorist effort. It's about more than that.

Yeah, they do...and what I said is no more out of topic than what you said to cause my reply.

Hey I respect your desire to get hammered...so be kind.

Should we trust you on this, or do you happen to have any evidence?

There is plenty to look up. Don't be a phony...it looks terrible.

Try France protecting French. You'll get all sorts of hits.

I don't know, I must have missed the headlines when France was hit with a horrific terrorist attack which killed over 3000 lives in a single day. I suppose we did over-react and the rest of the world who joined us (before Iraq)in over-reacting as well.

@revelette2,
The war in Afghanistan was a legitimate response to 9/11 in my view, but whatever followed (Guitmo, the torture, Iraq, and now the mass spying) is not.

I do not do "believing" at all.

So...you have found some material that shows I am correct and you are completely wrong...

...so your suggestions is that we disregard all that...and just take your word for it that France is not trying to protect French from the invasion of English.

I love ya, Olivier...I truly do. I wish we could be cyber buddies and get past all this nonsense.
