@mark noble,
No, it's simply because I love the Chicago theater; an old landmark that reminds me of my younger days. I also have a2k friends in Chiago, and have been back there several times after returning to California.

@JTT,
Not sure the nsa would introduce themselves so politely - Black bag over head followed by 'being dragged' sensation, more like.

Is it legal in Illinois to park directly outside a capacious public entrance/ fire-exit??

@cicerone imposter,
I have such a place from my childhood - a park, untouched by modernisation. Dylan Thomas penned many of his works thereat, so the city council tend it but retain its antiquity.

CI, did you know that the US has been committing vicious acts of terrorism against Cuba for over a half century? Do you know that the US, after pretending that it was saving the people of Spain's empire from Spanish oppression, murdered upwards of one million, just in the Philippines, and have been oppressing them all to this very day?

So as you sit back and smoke your Cuban cigar, you might want to reflect on those issues.

Did you take any pictures for your photo blog of Cubans dying because the US prohibits medical equipment, supplies, drugs, etc from reaching them?

You also might want to ponder as to why, with all the deeply evil things that the US has done to Cuba and its people, they have a lower infant mortality rate than the US of A.

@JTT,
All of what you say is common knowledge jt.
Are you suggesting that most US citizens are unaware of these factors, or are shielded from them?

I am an American and an Anglophile. I'm one of the minority of people who enjoy the Monarchy and am looking anxiously to the new arrival, the future king or queen of England to be born any minute. I remember setting my alarm to wake up and watch the marriage of Diana and Charles!

Of course there will always be individuals from any country who will rub us the wrong way, but nothing will ever alter my love for the UK.

Oh, as an afterthought, anytime a royal visits the US there is usually an overflow crowd.

Odd that...
Typically noone here gives a toss for the monarchy.
The only crowds they attract are journalists, tourists and asslicking pricks.

@Moment-in-Time,
There are many Brits living in the US and visa-versa. My niece is married to a Brit (from London).

The home next door to ours is owned by a Brit, but they're renting it out and now live in a nearby town in a bigger home.

I find it particularly "odd" you should say that. I usually watch via tv when key royalty arrive and wherever they go there is a crowd. There are clubs devoted to Royalty here in the US and especially for the late Diana. Of course when royalthy arrive they don't dominate every channel unless it's the Queen herself. I recall the last time Queen Elizabeth addressed the US congress. She appeared a little nervous....that endeared her even more to the American people and the congress who wholeheartedly applauded her enthusiastically.

Also, if the Royals visiting the US were not important why all cameras and the fuss?!?! The Royals are really covered when visiting.

@Moment-in-Time,
What I say is an accurate reflection of how the monarchy is viewed here.
On the other hand, those same brits have little time for yanks either.
Ultimately I couldn't give a toss for them or you.
Why would I?

I'm aware that there are many Brits living in the US as are Canadians. At my University we have visitors here for academic faculty positions (assistant professor or visiting professor along with graduate students). Strangely, most of these visiting academics are very much like Izzy in their regard for their monarchy as if the Royals are irrelevant.

I think many Brits resent the fact that they pay the Royals over $60 million every year for what amounts to titular duties.

Oh yes.....that's one reason some Brits are grumbling. It is said Princess Anne is the hardest working Royal and earns her stipend. The Monarchy is symbolic of the British culture, the people's traditional heritage. It certainly is a tourist attraction....

Good Nite, CI. Will read you tomorrow night, possibly.
