@Olivier5,
You hummed and hawed and finally cribbed a quote from Spendi.

-------

Kiribati is drowning.

They have to come here and see it for themselves. They have to see the water come in,” he continued. “The strategy I’ve adopted has been this: You recall the international preoccupation with terrorism? You recall that there was solid support for the fight against terrorism? You should focus on other security issues. Ecoterrorism is equal to terrorism. This is a kind of terrorism that is more dangerous in one way, because it is treated as legitimate and acceptable. Maybe 10 years ago, they didn’t know what they were doing.

@JTT,
No, I responded with specific historical facts, AND an excellent Spendi quote.

Answer with the same frankness to the same question: When was the golden age of your nation, JTT?

@Olivier5,
You are the liar, O5. Had you presented any "facts" in support of your cockamamie notion I'd have refuted them. You changed your position because you couldn't think of any golden age for the USA.

Sure the propaganda describes two plus centuries of a kind, benevolent country. It's all BS and your song and dance illustrates you almost certainly know it.

@JTT,
Of course I know the US self-projected picture of the land of the free, etc. is pure BS... What else is new?

You are a liar, though, because I stated clear, unambiguous historical facts, actions in which the US had contributed to the common good, and you denied it.

What country, now or in the past, is kind and benevolent when it can afford not to be.

Is that offered as a defence for the Nazis, for their actions in the Holocaust? Why have Hitler, Stalin, PolPot, ... been demonized so over the years?

In an interview with Spiegel (which is mainly about the Ukraine), German foreign minister Steinmeier said that the balance between freedom and security is seen very differently in the USA than it is in Europe and especially in Germany. "Hopefully, Washington has understood that the way of dealing with its partners can also have a political price," Steinmeier said.

@JTT,
Because they were demons. Obviously.

I wasn't making an argument. I was stating a fact. It was a defence of nothing. And I can't see why you thought it wasn't.

It was a question to you which you have avoided answering.

@spendius,
S: Because they were demons. Obviously.

And what of Bush/Cheney? Thatcher/Blair? Reagan, Kennedy, Eisenhower, Truman, ... ?

S: It was a question to you which you have avoided answering.

Let me first start by saying that your focus is blinded. For what reason I can only imagine. What of the hundreds of questions that I have posed that have gone unanswered.

You say you weren't making an argument but you are making an argument that ends in this question.

Fair enough.

If anyone, ever, were to raise that argument in a court of law they would be laughed out of existence. Do you think that was the defence of choice for the Nazis and other war criminals of WWII?

It actually worked for a few people when their lawyers pointed out the war crimes of the Allies.

We are speaking of the modern era, post WWII, from which principles have grown that are now in use to be abused by the USA, the UK and the like to try people for things that these two grand sets of criminals do all the time.

So no, I'm not so stupidly naive to think that war crimes and terrorism are solely the province of the USA, the UK, ..., but I'm also not dumb enough to raise the Romans did it meme.

It's the hypocrisy, the copious lies which all serve to allow the biggest terrorist group on the planet, the USA, which you and many others have been avoiding addressing since forever.

Is the USA the biggest terrorist nation/group on planet Earth?

@JTT,
JTT you are bright and some of your postings are both interesting and worthwhile however you have what amount to an over the top hates of the US that is hardly base on reality of any kind.

US like all nations have some aspects that are shameful and some aspects that any US citizen can take great pride in.

If you wish to be taken seriously and not place on ignore you should try to control your irrational hate when it come to the US.

It's really incredibly odd, Bill, that this not based on reality stuff is never addressed. Things not based in reality are easy to disprove but no one tries. You are hardly a shrinking violet and there are many others who take on most anything. Not this.

Bill: US like all nations have some aspects that are shameful and some aspects that any US citizen can take great pride in.

Most assuredly there is and should be in every nation. Remaining silent on obvious terrorism/war crimes is not one of them.

@JTT,
You know that post where I "cribbed a quote from Spendi"? You read it right? My answer to your question about the US was in that very post... and in my 1st post before it in the thread.

Told you you were a liar...
