I'm a greenhorn traveller, but very enthusiastic, does that count?

Born in Los Angeles, CA; lived in Dayton, Ohio; Fairfax, Virginia; Los Angeles, New York City; Evanston, Illinois; Los Angeles; northern California.

Visited Boston, Mass; Wichita, Kansas; Sioux City, Iowa; Omaha, Nebraska; Lake Tomahawk, Wisconsin; Sandpoint, Idaho; Seattle, Washington; Phoenix, Arizona; Eugene, Oregon; a grandaunt's house somewhere on the Georgian Bay in Ontario, Canada (not in sequence). Hundreds of places in California.

Trips to Mexico (Mexico d.f., Jalisco, Baja), Guatemala, and Italy are memorable for me.

I have travelled a lot of places in my mind. Am reading Chatwin on Songlines in Australia right now. Have painted a lot of places. My latest painting show was titled Travel in Paint...paintings of places I haven't been.

If the lottery picks me, I will quit work and travel and write/paint. Ireland, Scandinavia, Italy and Italy and Italy. I guess I need to see London and Paris.
I would like to see Japan too. Well, don't get me started.

Lived in, in order:

* New Brunswick, NJ (it's about in the middle of NJ)

* Huntington Township, NY (Long Island, Western Suffolk County)
* Boston, MA (for college)
* Wilmington, DE (for Law School)
* Claymont, DE (also for Law School; it's a suburb of Wilmington)
* Mineola, NY (Long Island, Central Nassau County)
* Providence, RI (lived near Brown University for a year)
* Brighton, MA (Western part of Boston)

I was born in California and traveled a lot within the states as a child, but the places where I most remember living are Alaska, Florida, Iowa, Oregon and Washington.

I've been up & down the Al-Can twice. Visited British Columbia a bunch, but no other parts of Canada, stayed in Mexico five times, been to Europe three times visiting England all three times, Wales once, Scotland once, France once, Belgium once and Spain twice. Married in Hawaii, we spent a year traveling slowly across the country in a truck camper ala "Travels with Charlie" (but no poodle!). During that time we lived in Minnesota for almost four months. The only states we didn't visit then were the Dakotas, Texas, Indiana and Illinois. Have worked in Alaska twice but most of my time has been spent raising kids in Puget Sound.

I used to live in the Soviet Union (1963-82 and 86-90), Israel (since September 1990). In 1982-86 I stayed in Afghanistan as a Soviet soldier/officer.
I visited Hungary (1990, two days on my way to Israel), Turkey ( three days' tours in 1997,98), Greece (three days' tours in 1999,2000). I made an application for immigration to the Commonwealth of Australia, and I hope to get a permission by August 2003. If the decision of the Australian INS on my application is positive, I shall live in this country since fall 2003.

BillW wants to visit Bali?!!! But it is very dangerous... If he needs some adventure, he should join the U.S. Army prior to its attacking Iraq, this would be safer: soldiers are better protected against terrorists than the civilians are.

I find it interesting that some people will list only the countries and states they have visited, while others will detail all the individual places (like me). I think it has a great deal to do with our occupation. I worked in accounting, and the premise has always been, the story is in the detail. Wink c.i.

I talked to my mom today c.i. She doesn't know where I've been (she was travelling a lot before I was born and continued to travel right afterward so she doesn't remember which places she took me and which places she went prior to my birth) so I can't be expected to remember.

The cities that I lived in which I can remember:

In Japan I lived in at least 10-15 cities and I have no idea where I visited.

I remember that in OZ I went to Sydney (because of pictures) but don't know what other cities I visited.

In Brazil I remember what cities I lived in (São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Guarujá, Santos, Fortaleza, and Joinville) but do not remember the places I have visited.

In the States I lived in Chula Vista, San Diego, Modesto, Colton, L.A., La Porte, Houston, Sugarsomething or other near Houston.

The other places I lived I can't recall.

The places I travelled is harder because I didn't pay much attention (e.g. when I went to Paraguay I looked acrosss the border and decided just to put my foot across and go home).

Just listing countries and states meant less typing...if I started listing cities, then maybe I should just put up a map and start drawing (road trips throught the USA and Europe; Japan - the south only - Kyoto, Nara, oh gosh - now what city was that? Tokushima? something like that in the general area; Iran - Tehran bus to Hamadan, Kermanshah, down to Ahwaz, west to Shiraz; flew to Isfahan; Turkey took a bus from Istanbul to Troy, then to Ankara; flew to Gazientepe, took the bus to Urfa, Diyarbakir, Adiaman, Malatya, Cappadocia; lived in a tent next to a village near Urfa for over four months total (on a excavation); Mexico - Tijuana, Juarez, Mexico City and day trips from there; Jamaica - Kingston; Puerto Rico...long time ago...see what I mean?

(Modesto. My God, Craven, how exotic. (I grew up just uphill from Modesto. What an armpit.)

Much belated condolences on the WWII accommodations, C.I. Wondering how you feel about it, if you don't mind my asking (as you well might)...
