@Lustig Andrei,
Don't forget the modern Louisianian for geographical location: YAT.

As in "Where y'at?"

More esteemed (?) Louisianians tried to use the shortcut as a disparaging name for those who shrimp or fish for a living, as in
" We was down to the barb-que, when a bunch of yats walked in."

Note: barb-que is the correct phonetic spelling of how barbecue is pronounced.

New Orleans Saints football fans put the kibosh on dissing the word Yat and adopted it as the name they prefer to refer to themselves.

They ain't fans, they's yats.

@Joe Nation,
Interesting. Reminds me (I don't know why) of the Hawaiian pidgin expression, "Where you stay?" If someone asks you that while you're on the phone with them, they're not asking "Where'd you sleep last night?" or "What is you home address?" They're asking "where y'at?"

Not sure "geographical location" is appropriate.
"Where y'at?" means "How are you doing?", not "Where are you?".

@ossobuco,
I hardly ever visit YouTube. Too much boring crap being posted by anyone who happens to have access to a camcorder.

Dunno, you could be right. The way I heard it was the shrimpers, instead of using the VHF protocols for ship to ship transmission 'This is XWQXR calling QXRWD, come in, QXRWD, used to just yell

'Hey, Jacques, you fat ass, where y'at??"
and get answered
"Zat you, Big Micky?? you sorry son-of-bitch, I's two miles outta Pointe le Zee but don't say that out loud. That Coast Guard been lookin' fer me for ten hours and I'm overloaded like hell. Where y'at"

And so on....
Communication is supposed to last no more than three minutes but late at night my correspondent said you could listen for hours as the crews yapped about prices, their shitty captains who were sleeping and their women who were sleeping around.

@Rockhead,
Even I didn't have a Commodore 64.

Imac from 2006 - which means probably 2005.
now at OS 10.6.8, as far as it can go, according to the guru.
My last software update a day or two ago slapped out the then Adobe as not secure - but I'd been having trouble for a while.

Interestingly, some of the stuff I complain about that sounds like me dithering - the cursor jiggling, the space in the reply box advancing into great length extremely fast, and occasional bell like sounds.. scary happenings - hasn't happened since I'm sans Adobe Flash. May be coincidence.
The ominous part is that I've been through this pattern before, and that was when I needed a new hard drive in 2009.
(stopping non-digression, thanks for asking while kidding)

Well I taught high school in the New Orleans area (West Jefferson parish)
and that was a common greeting. The first time I heard "Bra George,
where y'at?" from my students, I was baffled. I said, "I'm right here."
and they cracked up.

@George,
Here in Hawaii the expression is "how'zit." You hear it the way you hear "what's up" or "what's happenin'" on the mainland. Universal greeting. How'zit.
