Most of the victims in this shooting were shot by police. This is a result of a cultural proclivity in 21st century America. The anti gun crowd has managed to impress it in the minds of a large portion of our population that guns are evil and are capable of self initiated action and are likely at any moment to go out in the street and begin killing innocent people. It is a result of a subconscious notion that guns kill people and are evil. Of course this is simply a subconscious phobia. Guns don't kill anything In fact guns are inanimate objects people kill people. in the case of this New York Incident it was the shooter and the police who shot and killed people. The problem with many police departments today is that the officers don't actually spend any real time training with their firearms. To most or many officers the gun they have to carry is just another piece of equipment they have to hang on their belt like the flash light and the hand cuffs. And because of this inherent idea brainwashed into society that guns are bad there s a tendency to avoid handling and or use of their gun unless absolutely required to.. The shootings in New York are perfect examples of this phenomenon in action.
Any kind of even marginally proper training teaches you that you always have to be aware of what's behind your intended target. is there a chance your shot can or will go through to strike anyone standing behind the object of your action. Clearly this is NOT what happened with the police who immediately began arriving at the scene after the initial shots were fired. Of course it also maters to a surprising degree if you can actually hit what you aim at. Un fortunately too many people have this TV idea of guns and think shooting is as simple as point and pull the trigger. in other words too many people are staggeringly stupid and should by no means be allowed to handle firearms. unsupervised.
I spoke about this idea that pervades America today there was a time in America when this was not true. there was a time when most households had guns and many people either hunted or took part in shooting sports In fact there was a time when riflery was taught in high school and kids would bring their rifles to school with them. All of course done responsibly because people who are raised around guns are brought up understanding that there are responsibilities associated with a gun. people understood inherently that guns can cause terrible damage to you or your friends. Treat them carefully and with proper caution.
