@Ragman,
Very cool. I like both explanations. I've never been to a Jewish wedding, seen a few on TV, always wondered..

@Ceili,
The ones in person are more fun than the TV ones - no commercials.

@Ceili,
I love going to Jewish weddings (other than the ones where men have to sit separated from women Confused ).

A friend's daughter prepared "An Anthropologist's Guide to Jewish Weddings" for her first wedding - very handy - especially when the men came singing and dancing into the women's pre-wedding reception, pushing the groom ahead of them and someone had to look under the sheet covering the bride to make sure it was the right woman.

@jespah,
Happy anniversary, Jespah. You looked happy back then...and you look happy now.

Can't ask for more than that!

Hope the next 20 are just as great.

I think it was so nice of both of you to convert so you could have a Jewish wedding.
Very Happy

@Joe Nation,

it was the least we could do...

***

couple things --
when we moved into the house, we took some of the ivy from her bouquet, and planted it... it's still going strong, 16 years later...

my favorite part of the reception was being lifted up in the chair...

@Mame,
I thought that too - so young. Reminds me of the movie title, The Way We Were.

@Region Philbis,
I was going to ask about that too... Jeez I'm a cultural idiot. Why do they lift the groom (and bride???) in the chair?

@Ceili,

the way i understand it is the couple are king and queen during the hora, placed on their "thrones".
the goal is not to fall, and pray that their friends don't drop them...
