Lord Ellpus was a riot. Too bad he took that member seriously and betwen that and his moving plans, he left . With no gus or Lord or a a few others We really dont have a great comedic mind here anymore. Humor, its a gift ,and as someone said, when its impropery applied, its kinda lame.
On the positive, we are gifted with a collection of a few good writers who, even when they get involved in a brooha, do it with class and style. Ill go and read them even if I dont contribute.

I don't think there has ever been any strictly-enforced policy against trolls and bullies. And the naughty-word filter was just ridiculous. It starred out the word "specialisation" when I used it, because it contained the word "cialis". I think your nostalgia for the 'old A2K' mostly reflects you getting old and losing yourself in a falsely-imagined past. There were plenty of trolls and idiots on A2K when I joined it in early 2003.

You're wrong, Thomas. In times past, people got banned for bad-mouthing other people, for name-calling, for foul language. The place has changed.

Obviously senility is getting the better of me. Wink

But I don't think it's just nostalgia.
I honestly think the quality of the discussions (minus the ongoing abuse & name calling) was often superior. And more people participated as a result. And fewer people gave up on attempting to participate. (As I mentioned in my earlier post, I've been reading a few old threads recently.)
Apart from that, if any poster behaved in a seriously abusive or offensive manner towards others, that poster would be warned & sometimes even banned for a bit. Which was sometimes a blessing for all & provided the poster with the opportunity to cool off before posting again.
I am not advocating returning to a heavily moderated site, I just think it's a shame some people choose to be offensive simply because they now can.
But, of course, you are perfectly welcome to see things entirely differently, you sprightly young thing! Wink

My initial cooment (when I typed the thread) had nothing to do with "nastaligia" but good manners and style.
If al we wish is to engae in verbal fisticuffs, Im sure weve spawned the right place. No,, the celebration of wit and insight was a keynote of this outfit. Since when is culture and humor a throwback only appreciated by older folks? If thats a fact then I should just resign now. Im hoping it can get better around here and Im unwilling to just accept a Thomasian A2K.
