So, we've had a slightly trying couple of days in that I ran out of potato gnocchi and tried substituting possible pill carriers in my kitchen, since I wouldn't be going to the grocery store until today.

First I tried cooked polenta. I know, I know, corn, but I had it at hand. Didn't work, broke apart, with a fleeing pill.
Then I made up some of the doggie breath cookies, the ones with oatmeal and parsley and mint and egg that she likes. But.. .. .. they broke apart and discharged the pill, which she then stepped all over.
Then I tried ricotta torta (eggs, bits of collard greens, olive oil crust) and that worked the second time, as I learned to have it at room temp and squeeze in after inserting the pill in the 'filling'.
This morning, out of ricotta torta, I tried thawing one of the frozen mackerel fish cakes, which I've sprinkled previously on her kibble, and messing those into ball shapes. That worked best. Too bad, I like them for me re getting my dietary needs for oily fish.

But today's another day. I bought two large containers of ricotta, some of which will go to gnocchi, and some of those will go to Katy.
Gee, only about 40% of the pills gone, including the stepped on losses.

Meantime, no spills since last mentioned.

@roger,
Let your breath out, there's a new one, 6:55 pm. Relatively small hallway spill.
Or maybe it is that the hallway is relatively level..

I gotta say, the spills I can learn to deal with, it's the infection curves I see going on that worry me. A good day, relatively little water scarfing. More water, watch for spill. But I was told not to deny her water way back there in the beginning of this. The water need is (I think) the infection reaction.

Meantime, we have either a new dog in my duplex person's abode, or a fairly routine visitor there... a yipping screetcher.
So far I'm laughing.
The worst thing to me is no dog sounds.

I just put on an opera cd..

@ossobuco,
So are you saying that there's a possibility the some spills are not from your dog?

@Ragman,
No - not at all. Just that I hear yipping out my window. A new yipping.

Both of my neighbors expressed worry that I wouldn't like their dogs barking. I tried to straighten them out. I like dog sounds. I happen to hate high amped guitar eight feet away, teen getting it on, 2 a.m.

I listen to dogs, in my way - I'm no dog sound expert.

@ossobuco,
Is Katy intimidated/bothered by the other dogs barking? Maybe that is a pee factor somehow?

@Ragman,
Not at all. Those scrawny little things? Give her a break!! She is mistress of the estates when she bothers to bark. The new barker (what breed or mix I've no idea yet) sounds like a relatively big bird with allergies.

Roger saw - in the Jack and Rascals store where Katy encountered a young but large basset with a mightily resounding bark - that she wasn't the least bit bothered. She wasn't intimidated by the great dane who stole the penile chew from Diane either.

Maybe she's intimidated when she barks at thunder to ward it off.

So.
I have always had a miserable singing voice, which probably derives from my rather monotone speaking voice, which I've tried to lighten up but still hovers over monotone. I've posted about my singing a funeral mass alone. I assume the organist ramped up the volume and the family had more pain than warranted.

My singing voice is so bad that I haven't playfully sung for years. I never ever sing Happy Birthday. I can hear how bad it is. I can't sing but I can hear stuff being off. I have never sung in the shower. Why ruin a good thing.

I have talked to my dogs (and did to our cats, not sure, maybe to a bird or three).

The news is that I like to sing little bits to Katy. Once in a while recently, I hear me not being completely off key.

@ossobuco,
Just a thought - have you tried coating a pill in peanut butter? Works with out dogs - but they are greedy Labradors, so not really difficult to fool them where food's concerned!

@vonny,
I used up all my peanut butter with the dog cookies.
I have miniscule spare money and am already over any spending for the next month (as an aside, this kind of living takes practice).

However, supplies are good right now, but no peanut butter.

I buy sardines when I need to give capsules to my dog. Drop them in the water and then they go down easy and she does not mind it too much.

@ossobuco,
I am in the same boat. I had dinner last night at my sister's assisted living facility. So glad they have delicious salmon and they don't overcook the veggies. I brought home some salmon to my beloved Border Collie. He loves it.

Oops - know the feeling well! But I guess you have loads of goodies to hide the tablets in already - you seem to be an excellent cook (which is more than I am or will ever be) so Katy's probably getting gourmet treats, even if on a budget. So much easier with greedy Labs - they eat anything! Rolling Eyes

This dog is eating like a queen. Not that she isn't worthy. She is, but holey moley. My friends used to say that if they could come back, they'd want to come back as one of my cats. I'd say the same about me and your dog.

As for the singing, I say go for it. Who cares how you sound. It feels good to sing, IMO. I miss it big time. BIG TIME.

Give that Katy a head pat from me. Sigh.
