Matrix, I'm glad to see that you weren't getting the little birdies drunk. That would have been amusing, but not very nice.

Have never had a rum ball, I'm sorry to say. They do sound yummy though. Perhpas I'll try some one of these days.

Who is Helga?

And how do Craven's urinals insert themselves onto nearly every thread?

Hmmmmmmmmm - 'twas the potato thingy queens - Beth and Jespah methinks - who have the inner Helga - she seems to be a cooking conscience of some sort.

Why have you made her a dominatrix?

The urinals are Craven's ..... er.......dangly bits - which he keeps acting in a way that leads to others threatening to knog them. I think they were a little gratuitous on this thread, to be honest...

And - I DON'T eat fruitcake.

I sometimes eat rumballs....

I know this Helga, and I don't like her. Martha Stewart, she-wolf of the SS kitchen. Likely has a thing about urinals too.

Maybe beth should start a thread of all things Helga. It's highly entertaining stuff. I'm thinking Helga could be the basis for a sit come.

There's only one Helga. I have an inner Yetta, who says "Oy!" a lot.

She's also not a fan of urinals. Rum balls, however, are always gratefully and graciously accepted.

Okay...
you buy a large bottle of rum
You begin drinking it
after that, Im a bit fuzzy but it involved throwing stuff in a bowl and rolling it in little balls

Yes, sit.com not likely to be a urinal-friendly site either.

Okay, here are two recipes. (Actually, since I don't drink, I should send them in original German!).

The first one is more academic, it's from the Ruhr-Universitx Bochum website:

Rumkugeln (rumballs)

Zutaten (ingredienst

1/8 l cream
400 g reasped chocolade (Raspelschokolade)
150 g ground nuts
4 Gläschen Rum (that is: small [!!!] glasses)
100 g chocolade granulate (Schokostreusel)

Cook the cream once slowly. add the chocolade, then the nuts, finally put in the rum. Cool the stuff. Form balls and turn in the chocolade granulate.

This seems to have been the easy one for students. The next is more difficult - but you shold get 150 balls :
Zutaten:

400g Kuvertüre (baking chocolade)
4 small glasse rum
1 small bottle rum arome
200g ground almonds
250g ´butter
500g icing sugar
400g chocolade granulate

Do the same as above. Melt the butter in another pan and add the icing sugar. Add to the chocolade.

Quotation: "Now taste it. If it isn't enough rum in it [I hear you shouting!!!] add as you like."

Form balls, turn in the granulate and keep them at a cool place for at least 4 hours.

Quinn, thanks a LOT. (Not...) What I am seeking is your "old family recipe," if you please.

blatham, Laughing Laughing Laughing

Walter, I think the first recipe is easy enough even for me. Is there any note of what type of chocolate is to be melted: bitter-sweet, unsweetened, or????

Is 1/8 liter 125 ml? And what is a "small" glass of rum? Yours and my small glasses may be quite different. Drunk
