I never even look at the friends list, hah. I filled it out at some point so that in case one of the people that rarely posts goes missing I could find their latest posts. But there are other ways to do that anyway.
On pms, you can just send a pm. (click on Inbox in the upper right of the page, fill out the person's screen name)
