Are your kids back to school? About to start?

I had a couple of back-to-school related things knocking around my head but none of 'em really coalesced into a specific topic/ question, so I'm keeping this general.

Happy to see 'em go? Sad summer's over?

Some random thoughts:

- I've been buying more staples than usual in preparation for the descent of the locusts. (Sozlet's friends come over and gobble everything in sight.)

- Activities are kicking my butt. I'm annoyed that she's supposed to start specializing already. (Sozlet's entering 5th grade.) It was fine to do soccer and ballet and science club when each one was an hour a week -- but when soccer and ballet are several hours a week each (the time commitment and general expectations increase every year), it gets way too busy. She's probably going to have to choose between two of 'em or else be that kid that's always running to something. Grr.

- This isn't school-related exactly, but I'm loving the new free-rangeness she has with her phone.

So what's on your mind, moms or dads or heck even the school kids (we've got some here). Oh and teachers too!

Have a cuppa.

Pouring myself a cup o' joe, I reflect with contentment on that fact that
my kiddoes are all out of school. Life is good.

@sozobe,
September 6th is the first day of school for us.

On one hand I am glad that we're back to a regular schedule then, on the other hand we didn't have to get up at 6:30 am, and rush rush to get to school by 7:00 am. Jane's school starts at 7:20 am, but if we're not there by 7:00 am the traffic becomes a nightmare as our high school and the middle school are right next to each other and both start at the same time.

So, I am enjoying the last few weeks of summer, as does Jane, but I can
tell that she's anxious to see all her school friends again and she's ready
for a challenging school schedule as well. She'll be taking classes in journalism and also be part of the school newspaper. She also started volunteering at our local hospital to meet her community service hours.

We haven't shopped yet for school supply or new school clothes, but it's
rather easy, since they all kind of wear the teen "uniform" that's found
at Hollister.

I was at a jewelry store yesterday, getting someone a retirement gift.

While there, this woman came in to get a charm for her little girls charm bracelet, because it was going to be her first day at school soon.

I thought that was just the sweetest thing.

@sozobe,
Hi sozobe! Mr. Green

Im 13 and we started school August 15, and Im sooo mad that summers over. I hate waking up early in the mornings, I love to sleep. I have to wake up at 6:00 am every morning and Im soo tired!

Plus I have AP American History, the most boring class EVER, 1st period! Its impossible for me to stay awake and pay attention.

School is soo boring. Id rather be homeschooled! Im counting down the days til Thanksgiving break! Haha!

Im still in school actually, The dismissal bell rings in about 5 minutes. Im being sneaky. We have a substitute today, YAY!, and Im in the back of class, using the internet on my ipod. Haha! Embarrassed Laughing Razz

We didnt do any work today and I was bored out of my mind so I just had to surf the web! Haha!

@sozobe,
I can tell by the level of absolute weirdness around here that it's almost time for school to start.

Mo says he's ready for it to get underway.

Fingers crossed!

@GracieGirl,
Hey, give 'em a break, Kid. You've been in class for what, four days and you want excitement already?

My neighbors started at the same time. I can tell because one of them's hair just turned green. The other went with purple. Should I tell them that a strong pink would look ever so much better? At least it wouldn't look like some kid of fungus.

@chai2,
Yeah, I am the one with the broomstick!! Twisted Evil

Gracie, Gracie, do me a favor and leave your ipod or iphone at home.
If your teacher will take it from you, I am sure your Dad won't pick it up right away and you don't have it for a while.

My daughter got her cell phone taken when she was in 7th grade and I didn't pick it up until the school year was almost over. A bitter lesson to learn but she hasn't used her ipod or cell phone in class since....

@CalamityJane,
Ha!

Okay Mommy CJ, I'll try to leave my ipod home. Embarrassed

Or, can I just turn it off when school starts and turn it back on after school? I NEED my iPod when Im at the bus stop and on the bus. I just wont use it on class like today, but atleast I waited until the last 5 minutes right?

And yea, my dad wouldnt pick it up. He NEVER picks things up when its taken away. I had to beg my Aunt Jess to pick it up last year. It was in the office for a whole month! Worse time of my life! Razz
