Remember three years or so ago, when Rick Perry was loudly and repeatedly proclaiming that Texas should secede from the Union? And now he wants to become our president? It may be time for the other 49 states to secede from Texas.

@izzythepush,
OK. Im really not a big fan of most beers anyway. I did like IPA's cause they went well with foods. Other beers, foreign or domestic I could take or leave.
Now the "hard ciders" thats another thing altogether. Im showing my Continental Roots I suppose (although Im pnly second generation)

@farmerman,
This guy has a brilliant cider farm. You go there and you can literally drink 3 pints of the stuff for free, then pay to take a gallon home with you.

@izzythepush,
Izzat Cider Roger?. If it is, Ive heard of him. Woodchuck has a wall of cider makers around the wlorld in their brew pub.
Ours is in Vermont.
While there are several other cider makers around (the colonial cider kick only got started big in the last 15 years). IMO Woodchucks is the best cause it tatses "finished" It doesnt have that relic yeasty tatse that many craft brews impart on their product.

I could never stand most craft brews because of that. They always tasted like "Bathtub specials"

@farmerman,
He is called Roger, I don't know if he's the Cider Roger. Somerset is a place where geneticists flock to take the DNA sequences of ancient cider trees.

@izzythepush,
Apples are an interesting plant series from a genetic standpoint. Their histroy goes back at least to the Cretaceous and some say the Jurassic at the dawn of angiosperms. The apples genome is actually twice as big as that of humans. Genes arent a measure of complexity but are the bookkeeping of an organisms history with many genes that are turned off , then later on, and then later still, off again. SO all this is recorded in the genopme . The genetics expewriment (some of my colleagues were taking part in the cross linking of the genome of the rose and the apple in paleo history) Roses were present in the MAericas but apples werent , yet both belong to the same order of plants. They say that apples came originally from Eastern Turkey (thats where they are most diverse) an had spread to the rest of Asia.

Apples in the AMericas were actually a positive product in what became known as the "columbian WExchange" where, after the Spaniards invasions, things like diseases, pests, weeds , cattle, chickens and apples came to the Americas while Europe got things like corn, potatoes, tomatoes, cucurbit plants, and most of its gold

@farmerman,
One of the reasons the Somerset Cider apples are so valued is because they are natural. I read somewhere that all our modern varieties of apple are the product of selective breeding.

This absolutely terrifies me because it just seems so plausible. We do not need another Evangelical Texas cowboy in the White House.

Had an uncle who was a fruit farmer, mostly apples. He used to let some of his crop ferment and apparently turned out quite a mean hard cider. Come winter, he and a large segment of his town's government would get together on weekend nights and play poker and drink up his year's product. At least until the night the cops picked up one of the aldermen wandering down the road in his underwear through the falling snow, and it was suggested that maybe the partying should stop.

@shewolfnm,
You actually believe in evolution??

I mean, formerman has at least a lame excuse being a member of your basic academic dead-wood society but you don't look old enough.

@gungasnake,
I woonder if Gungasneak had someone else write his last post?
The fact that he doesnt even understand the theory he attempts to discredit is a perfect example of how his midieaval mind works.

@farmerman,
It's not surprising he doesn't believe in evolution. It doesn't really apply to him. Perhaps the theory of atavism would be more accurate?

@rosborne979,
Perry seems to be a true believer, anyway holding such a worldview will be dangerous if he wishes to carry the oil patch minds and Austin.

He might carry some districts but I wonder whether he s able to convince the majority who dont buy his religious sourced views.
Remember, were looking at support from his vocal supporters.

@farmerman,
Perry just doesn't seem saavy, talking about where and how he grew up, bla bla bla. He's a bit thick across the middle....and, why does he wear a suit jacket with big shoulder pads? Well, I know he doesn't talk with his shoulders, but, hey, we've never had a president that looks like Bubba either.

Naw, Perry should stay as governor of TX, until he's voted out. These old cowboy type Texas men are hopefully, just fading away.

Like I say, Rick Perry is one plausible pubbie candidate who could (easily) beat Bork Obunga. Others who would beat Bork Easily include:

Only problem with your thesis, snaKKKe, is that the polls show Obama in trial matchups with all the Republican candidates whipping their asses. Not a one of them beats him. Believe me, he'd have Porky Pig converted into bacon in seconds. I know you live in some sort of fantasy land where Daffy Duck is a viable candidate, but wherever your fantasy land is, it ain't in America. He'll be serving Porky Pig's bacon on Rick Perry toast for breakfast in 2013.
