I have a few different places where I get plants. We must have at least ten different nurseries in the area. I got these large King Palms delivered and planted from these three guys, plants are very inexpensive here in Florida.

@jcboy,
Here's a place I know and have worked with -

given the number of feet from the side walk and your later planted hedge, I question the positioning. I'll admit we've had Washingtonia lasting in near concrete back in Venice,CA.

@Ragman,
In northern climates, you have to dig up the bulbs and winter them inside.

(usually)

I got away with not pulling them out this year, but we had no winter to speak of...

most of mine were 4 to 5 feet tall. and they split and multiply. my patch should fill in and blaze scarlet by July...

@Rockhead,
Yeah, my friend in Albany dug them up around early-to-mid-November and replanted in mid-to-late April.

@Ragman,
Planting a tree and planting a crocus will vary. Or, should.

@ossobuco,
Out of curiosity, why are you addressing this to me? I've only planted a money tree which is barren.

Oh..I see now..OK!

@Ragman,
I picked up Antonio from school in the truck today, he likes riding in the truck. We stopped and picked up a few more plants. Going to make two more borders on each side of the porch and add some more color. I’m making a tropical jungle Cool

@jcboy,
Ah, thanks, I took it/them as pretty close..
I think it's San Luis Obispo that has King Palms as street trees - fabulous.

@ossobuco,
It’s twelve feet from the curb to the sidewalk. We don’t own that property, its an easement and owned by the city, but we have to take care of it, so I took out the ugly bushes that were there and planted the palms.

Don’t have time for gardening this morning, doing housework then have a pool party to go to later. I’ll do my yard work tomorrow.

@jcboy,
I’m mapping out a spot for some new plants, trying to get an idea how I want it to look.

@jcboy,
Good lord I'm jealous of those plants... Our selection up here is not quite so lush. I'm redoing my yard this summer, once the snow melts, but it'll take years before I get that kind of height or infill. I just love the huge tropical leaves. I'm building raised planters so the yard has a more vertical look, and hopefully, I'll be able to build the front and back decks this summer too. Maybe, if we can scrounge up the cash a new garage.. fingers crossed. I have two dump trucks worth of top soil, just waiting to be used. I'm thinking of building a sculpture or two as well.
My problem is I have more ideas than money or time...

@Ceili,
I had to come in for a while, was getting too hot. It was nice this morning when it was overcast. The schefflera tree in the front of the house has doubled in size in one year.

I love the climate here, you can grow anything.
Cool

@jcboy,
I stayed home today with a lousy cold so worked in the sun and finished another section.

@jcboy,
I have a schefflera that is 6 or seven years old. he comes in in the winter and goes out after the frost is all gone. but it is no where near qualifying for tree status...
