Citizens United boss: Supreme Court ruling handed midterm elections to Republicans
Source: Raw Story

Don’t think Citizens United made a difference for the GOP in Tuesday’s midterms? The plaintiff in the landmark Supreme Court case thinks so.

“Citizens United, our Supreme Court case, leveled the playing field, and we’re very proud of the impact that had in last night’s election,” said David Bossie, chairman of the conservative advocacy organization.

He complained that Democratic lawmakers were trying to “gut the First Amendment” with their proposed constitutional amendment to overturn the 2010 ruling, reported Right Wing Watch, which allowed corporations to pour cash into campaigns without disclosing their contributions.

Bossie said this so-called “dark money” was crucial to Republicans gaining control of the U.S. Senate and strengthening their grip on the U.S. House of Representatives.

@cicerone imposter,
People need to be as ready to vote as to answer a poll. How screwed up is thinking a vote changes nothing and at the same time think answering a poll is making one's voice heard? Seriously. Voting is important. Not voting because it changes nothing is self fulfilling prophesy. At some point you will find yourself refusing to vote on a proposition on whether you remain enfrachised or not.

I want nothing more than to vote in a national election for Hillary, MiT...but my feelings for some time now has been that she is exhausted...and really does not want to put up with the incredible pettiness the right will bring to a candidacy.

Hillary Clinton is a past master when it comes to dealing with Republication opposition and had her training in her husband's administration. She and Bill were under the most hostile partisan attacks when in office, led by the human demon, Newt Gingrich, a man who was doing the very same thing Bill was doing, but yet blatantly giving this information to the media to report on Monica Lewinsky and the president. This was the most humiliating aspect of the public scandal, her husband's extramarital affair with Monica Lewinsky. As a woman I felt deeply for her (and him), yet, had I been her I would have walked away and not looked back. Before that, a political firestorm was ignited at the suicide of White House Counsel, Vince Foster. The Republicans accused the Clintons of murdering the man.

"The Whitewater controversy (also called the Whitewater scandal, or simply Whitewater) began with investigations into the real estate investments of Bill and Hillary Clinton and their associates, Jim and Susan McDougal in the Whitewater Development Corporation, a failed business venture in the 1970s and 1980s."

The Republicans's vindictiveness was out in full force, although not to the same degree as with Obama, which imo, is worse because of who he is. Hillary Clinton has only become stronger, even putting some congressmen in their place when they tried to blame Benzhazi, the fatal killing of Ambassador Stevens on her. I do think in a sense, Hillary will welcome the scrutiny and she can very well hold her own. Hillary is a very strong female and doesn't backs down for any one!

@bobsal u1553115,
The real issue is that American voters are clueless, and their votes are overwhelming in elections. Until that changes, the usefulness of voting doesn't exist.

As you have pointed out, the American voters rate congress at 11% approval rating, then turn around and vote them back in! What kind of idiocy is that?

1. The US economy is the only one still recovering well from the Great Recession; better than Europe or China.
2. Millions more now have health insurance.
3. The majority of people now have jobs.
4. Most have recovered their loss from the Great Recession.
5. People are buying more cars and homes.

The American voter than turns around the elects into office the very party that has voted no to job creating legislation, tried to take away their health insurance, control women's body and health care, and deny any minimum wage increases.

Where's the logic - if there ever was one?

I read your article last night and I do believe "dark money" made a crucial difference among other things; although in 2012, lots of money was spent and Obama won handily, proving money cannot buy votes. Conventionally, during mid term elections, turn out is very low especially for the average American. The GOP does a better job during this period because seemingly that is the only time they can make gains. Some minorities hold two and three jobs and the presidential election is the only election which motivates many to come out because they are swamped with political informatiom. Also, many Americans are low-information voters and really don't understand the issues at stake for if they did the effort, I believe, would be greater. A Lawsuit over allegedly unprocessed voter registrations in Georgia is being heard in Atlanta court today. In another red state hundreds of minority voter registration applications disappeared in this election and the court put the matter on hold until after the election!

.....And there are those who will describe people who think like you, which could number into the many, many tens of thousands, as "stpd." If all those American non-voters believed like you, CI, had only exercised their right to vote, it's more than likely we might have made a difference....look at what we did in 2012?!

The situation is not simply black and white. People died for Americans to have the right to vote; but you who say you're not going to vote will complain over and over, labeling Americans who do vote the opposite of what you want as "stupid." What right do you have to complain about the outcome when you have not cast the least vote to try and right this boat?!

@Moment-in-Time,
There's a huge difference between "right to vote" and "voting stupidly." There's no overcoming stupid voting when the masses practice it.

If the younger generation, women, and minorities doesn't care what happens to their country, I'm not that worried either!

And a Black republicans woman won! Holy cow! What does that say about this screwed up country.

Hey, I'm on your side, Bobsal. It was a tsunami which struck the Dems this past Tuesday evening. The motivating force which galvanized such a win for the Republicans is the collective white opposition to Obama. The red States finally had an opportunity to show their displeasure at this so-called Interloper, a black man in the highest position that is meant for whites exclusively! I believe it was one of your picture postings that stated if you can show the poorest white man that he is better than blacks, he will vote against his own personal interest and for the Republican Party. Racism is the DNA of American culture and the more progress/education/positions African Americans attain, the more insecure poor whites are and this racial deep divide is exploited big time by politicians. Opposition to the Black man in the Oval Office wounds many whites deeply, and so they made a special effort to vote against the Dems.

"white male" opposition it is claimed. Funny, for years the liberal biased media has claimed that white males are increasingly irrelevant at election due to decreasing numbers. I dont think some folks know that the numbers are.

It must be the color of his skin right? The fact that he is an incompetent prick has nothing to do with it. BTW if you look at the polling he has always gotten high marks for being personally liked, probably a large part of that is a knee jerk resistance to saying anything negative about a black man, it is the opinion on the quality of his work that is low, and going lower.

I am so glad you brought that up regarding the black republican female in Utah! Utah only began admitting blacks to position in the church a few years ago...."and the GOP only began admitting black women Tuesday night."

I place her in the same position I place Uncle Thomas on the Supreme Court. It staggers the imagination that a black would deign to vote Republican after they way the GOP treat them, like second class citizens. There is another African American from South Carolina, Senator Tim Scott, who took the place of the former Di Mint (SC). The first thing he said to the Media for Obama's ears was "Hit the road, Jack." This guy is truly disgusting. Just like Allen West of Florida who only served one term. West is so nasty, Floridians kicked him out by electing someone else after one term of the radical African American.

What The Professor and most D's dont get is that the failed economy changes the politics on immigration. So long as this economy can not produce anywhere near enough decent jobs the last thing we want are more Mexicans undercutting us on the labor market, and this goes for the mexicans who are already here.

@hawkeye10,
Where did you get the idea that Mexicans undercut the market?

Most Mexicans in California work in the service industry; in restaurants, construction, and hard labor. That several cities in California have instituted minimum wage increases - way beyond the federal level, others can surely apply for the jobs that the Mexicans are now doing - but they don't. Without the Mexicans, our restaurants and service industries would be in big trouble, and it would shrink our economy.

When restaurants close, so does the factories that produces the products used in the industry; the farmers that grow the food, and the trucks that transport them to the markets and restaurants.

Immigrants enrich our country. Something you bigots will never learn.

No sense at all. How do you vote pot and significantly higher minimum wages and vote for candidates who are against pot and any sort of minimum wage approaching a living wage? Why did Democrats stay home?

I am gob-smacked. And how!

And don't forget the fruit farms, etc. The planting and harvesting. They also help inside the house with cleaning and babysitting , also hotels, and a host of all types of menial jobs. Unfortunately for them, many are exploited and are paid low wages off the books. I agree, CI, without the help of the undocumented we would be in big troublem because many Americans won't do this backbreaking work...all day in the sun picking grapes, etc. Yet these red states are for indiscriminate wholesale ouster out of the country.* I do hope Obama takes executive action since the dysfunctional congress never will.

*Ironically, Mexicans are Native Americans. They speak Spanish because Spain once colonized Mexico and other countries in the Americas. The continent of the Americas belonged to them first, thousands of years before Columbus discovered the Americas. It is believed Native Americans arrived here from Asia via the Bering Strait when that area was frozen solid.
