Republican concedes San Diego congressional race to incumbent Democrat
Source: LA Times

Republican challenger Carl DeMaio has conceded defeat in the tough, expensive race against incumbent Rep. Scott Peters (D-San Diego).

DeMaio made his concession in an interview Sunday with the Associated Press, which on Friday had declared Peters the winner in the 52nd Congressional District.

DeMaio trails Peters by 4,771 votes with an estimated 6,000 to 8,000 votes to be counted, according to the county elections department. The count has Peters at 51%, DeMaio 49%.

Peters, 56, an environmental lawyer and former San Diego City Council member, was seeking a second term representing a district that includes Coronado, Poway and a northern stretch of San Diego.

WI Paper Ballot Scanners Failed to Count 1000s of Votes in 'Citizens United' Ballot Referendum

WI Paper Ballot Scanners Failed to Count 1000s of Votes in 'Citizens United' Ballot Referendum
Popular, oft-malfunctioning computer tabulator used in WI, many other states, tallied just 16 votes out of 5,350 cast in Stoughton, WI...

Though some 5,350 voters are known to have voted in the city of Stoughton in Dane County, Wisconsin on Tuesday, just 16 of those voters were interested in voting in a local ballot referendum calling for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to help overturn the infamous Citizens United decision --- at least according to the results reported by paper ballot optical-scan computer tabulators there.

"A malfunction with the voting machines in Stoughton Tuesday led to an incomplete outcome of the city's referendum on whether to amend the U.S. Constitution, Stoughton clerk Lana Kropf said," according to a terse and somewhat cryptic report in the Wisconsin State Journal on Thursday.

The city's ES&S DS200 paper ballot optical-scanners (a computer tabulation system plagued with problems in many states over the years) reported zero votes for the initiative in five of the city's six voting wards, and just 16 votes (7 Yes, 9 No) in the other.

"Never in my years working in clerks' offices have I seen something like this," Kropf told the Journal...

Where did you get the idea that Mexicans undercut the market?

Most Mexicans in California work in the service industry; in restaurants, construction, and hard labor. That several cities in California have instituted minimum wage increases - way beyond the federal level, others can surely apply for the jobs that the Mexicans are now doing - but they don't. Without the Mexicans, our restaurants and service industries would be in big trouble, and it would shrink our economy.

When restaurants close, so does the factories that produces the products used in the industry; the farmers that grow the food, and the trucks that transport them to the markets and restaurants.

Immigrants enrich our country. Something you bigots will never learn.

Rich white people have been mooching off hard working Mexican immigrants for many years...

One fantastic story out of last election.
Chevron tries to confuse voters of Richmond California...Spending 3 million plus to rid city of mayor and councilwomen and men... Didn’t work.. Of course Richmond was practically ruined by a Chevron fire a few years earlier, but nevertheless their bullshit lies did not work.. Thanks to some great reporting by local reporters..

I guess what we need is a devastating event which can be laid squarely on the shoulders of the Corporate Interests that are currently running every aspect of our country..This probably is not realistic.

But perhaps the change can happen one city at a time..

Also the complete story..Bill Moyer’s show tonight.. Laid the whole thing out..Just Great..

In 1968 the min wage was the equivalent to $9.50 today. That is $19,760 year today if a person works 40 hours a week with no time off. Someone is going to raise a family of three on that comfortably?

Blow me!

The min wage never did and never was intended to be enough to raise of family of three on its own. This is another example of how liberals tend to peddle lies and gibberish.

The Republican Party's policies are so deleterious to the American people that the only way these crooks can win anything is to break the law. Of course I believe there was widespread massive voter impropriety. The GOP is so corrupt how in the name of all that's right can they win in a straightforward manner other than to rig the election.

Einstein: Min wage was $1.60. never missing a day gets $269 for the month.

According to this site
http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/taxfacts/displayafact.cfm?Docid=64
the government took $65

Also we have social security of 9, the state prob took 7

This cat took home $188

So you go pay your unbelievably low rent of $130 and you will have $58 in your pocket for you and your family of three to live on for a month.

HAVE FUN!

@hawkeye10,
the 1040 is here
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040--1968.pdf

Maybe $180 of the 269 is not taxable. Tax then is $21.50

You have $101.50 in your pocket for the month with three mouths to feed. Gas up the car and take a gallon of milk to the wife for the kid to keep his bones good and strong then you have $93.70 after you get home the night you cash your check at the bank and pay rent.

HAVE FUN!

You and the wife do have fun tonight, you have MONEY. So you go to the movies, $3 for the tickets and you blow another $1.10 on sodas and popcorn and so you start the next day with $89.60.

And so it goes. .............................

@hawkeye10,
How would that work today if after you paid rent, gassed up the car, bought a gallon of milk for the kid and took your boyfriend to the movies you woke up the next morning with $600 to make the month work for your family of three. Could you do it? It was even worse then because food and clothes were relatively much more expensive than they are now, along with most of the stuff that you would find in a Walmart. But we will make this easy, you get $600 and a walmart, which your 1968 min wage man did not have.

Go ahead, tell me again how great living on min wage in 1968 was.

@hawkeye10,
Hey dummy! You forgot to pay the babysitter when you went to the movies, you dont have $600 on that first morning after payday. If you are a cheapskate taking advantage of the neighbor girl you have $585. If you are an ethical employer paying the 1969 min wage you have $570.

To all the people calling each other stupid jerks on these issues:

Fact is, that in the 1950’s…almost all homes had but one bread winner (usually the husband)…and his wages saw to the mortgage, food, medical needs, clothing, education, entertainment and (here’s a curiosity) some savings.

That is the way it was.

Yeah, there were some poor…and there certainly were plenty of rich. But the middle class was enormous…and relatively well-off.

Today that no longer holds…and despite the fact that both sides of the political spectrum proclaim their methods will put things back on track…there is very little to suggest that either side can make that happen. It seems from most of the dynamics in play that things will get even worse...that the "middle class" will become an even smaller element of society.

Major changes have to happen in society in order to make things work…to insure that everyone has enough to get by…and even more hopefully, that everyone have enough to live a better life than just “getting by.”

We can do it.
