In my personal opinion, your statement, Rex, is the unvarnished truth. We must not forget that Obama's mother was white and with the exception of Indonesia his world was with his white relatives. Inside racist US being half white and black the individual will be considered all black but realistically, the mental/emotional makeup of Barack Obama is more complex than that. He was reared by a single white mother, white grandmother and white grandfather. Reading his two best selling books he had to make a conscious effort to go out into the world as a black man because his color in America defined which "race" he belonged to. I firmly believe, President Obama does not see "race"...how could he with an African father!? Or at least not from the same perspective most of us see color simply because he is who he is. He does see ignorance and gross intolerance, however, and combats it daily; he tries to address such with much the same tact you reserve for the benighted poster, H20.

@RexRed,
This kind of news needs to be covered by all the medias as they do the GOP fish hunting expeditions. Their current approval rating of 9% will surely drop to ZERO!

A Republican state lawmaker in Kansas says that he opposes cutting the taxes on groceries because it would be a form of “social engineering” that encourages people to buy food over other items.
The Kansas Senate on Thursday voted to cut the state sales tax on food from 6.3 percent to 4.95 percent, but Sen. Jeff Melcher (R) led opposition against the measure, arguing that it would lead to people eating more.

“It seems to me we are encouraging the behavior of purchasing food and discouraging the behavior of purchasing anything else,” Melcher reportedly told his colleagues.

@edgarblythe,
That's because all conservatives are rich, and they believe 47% are takers.

It says nothing for the family who's pay and benefits have not been keeping up with inflation for two decades. They eat too much!

The koch brothers' bid to buy elections in America speaks to the obvious need for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and subsequent rulings.....

Bernie Sanders' article is spot on. Billionaires are politicised oligarchs and monopolists who obscure the facts for average Americans.

Big money buys power which in turn attracts the ambitious among us...some so power hungry they would throw their mother under the bus for a spot among the nation's elite. And, ah, the Koch brothers who're skilled manipulators, and with their many billions, America is indeed in a bad way.

...Sheldon Adelson, the owner of the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino and the Sands Expo and Convention Center, contributed 100 million bucks to Mitt Romney so when he became president of the US he would show favoritism to Israel. Every day I'm immensely grateful Mitt Romney is not the President of the US...Jeepers, what a cold inhuman a.s.s.h.o.l.e!

But America is still in trouble....major corporations, Banks, Health Insurance do not want regulations...After obama, the future for America doesn't look too bright...."A country is judged by the way it treats its citizens."

I would have voted against the measure, too. Why 4.95 percent?

Lower it to 4 percent or stop at 5 percent. Why mess around with these hundredths of a percent?

@edgarblythe,
The point: if you're buying something at a store, would you rather calculate a tax of 5% or a tax of 4.95%? How does one even begin to calculate 4.95% of something?

@Kolyo,
The same way when you buy gas. Fuel prices has a third digit -"9." Mr. Green

Example: $4.959

The US should get rid of the penny. It cost more than .01c to produce, and it costs businesses untold expenses having to count pennies.

@Moment-in-Time,
Why do you a d others continue to leave George Soros off the list of "evil" rich people trying to buy elections?
He stated that he would spend his entire fortune to make sure repubs weren't elected, and he spent millions to ensure that Obama won.
Isn't he guilty of buying favors and buying the election also, or does he not count since he is a liberal democrat?
