Four Pinocchios to Obama for “500 Republican filibusters” claim

“Here’s what’s more disconcerting. Their [Republicans] willingness to say no to everything — the fact that since 2007, they have filibustered about 500 pieces of legislation that would help the middle class just gives you a sense of how opposed they are to any progress — has actually led to an increase in cynicism and discouragement among the people who were counting on us to fight for them.”

But even if one counted all of those as filibusters, Obama’s claim still wouldn’t make any sense. Kessler counts up the actual filibusters — not just on legislation but all such actions — and gets 133 of them, not 500. Where did Obama get “over 500″?

I'd say you're the one with the lies.

While they work to destroy Obama, they are also destroying this country.

That's interesting since the Senate itself agrees with Obama

Gohmert: Comcast Blocking The Blaze for Political Reasons

Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-TX) drilled Comcast’s chief lobbyist David Cohen about the company’s apparent efforts to block a generous purchase offer by conservative network The Blaze. Gohmert presented an email from a representative of the channel The Blaze was attempting to buy (RLTV) that specifically cites Comcast’s political motives for blocking the deal. After Cohen denied the allegations, Gohmert reminded him of the consequences of lying to Congress.

RLTV is in dire financial trouble, currently in debt to Comcast $20 million. The Blaze has not only offered a good purchase price for the struggling channel, but even offered to pay RLTV’s full debt to Comcast. Despite the seemingly no brainer terms, the purchase has been blocked.

Congressman Gohmert began his question to Cohen by reading the following email from an RLTV representative that underscores the political nature of Comcast's denial of the bid:

On Friday, Francis called for the United Nations to promote a "worldwide ethical mobilization" of solidarity with the poor in a new spirit of generosity.

He said a more equal form of economic progress can be had through "the legitimate redistribution of economic benefits by the state, as well as indispensable cooperation between the private sector and civil society."

It is not interesting, it is another protracted lie. Cloture is not filibuster.

Cloture

The cloture rule–Rule 22–is the only formal procedure that Senate rules provide for breaking a filibuster. A filibuster is an attempt to block or delay Senate action on a bill or other matter. Under cloture, the Senate may limit consideration of a pending matter to 30 additional hours of debate.

Even then, while Obama referred to “500 pieces of legislation,” the same bill can be subject to as many as three cloture motions, further inflating the numbers.

Was lying about the cause of their deaths disrespectful? How about joking about it?

The Democratic Party has really mastered doublespeak…

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi had a tough message for Republicans Thursday after GOP lawmakers pushed through legislation to create a special committee to investigate the Benghazi attacks.

“Republicans’ unending eagerness to exploit these deaths is disrespectful to their families and unworthy of the American people,” Pelosi, D-Calif., said. “Our nation deserves better than yet another deeply partisan and political review.”

And, she said, “It is clear that House Republicans will do anything to divert attention away from their failed leadership and do-nothing record.”

Failed leadership? What do Republicans control other than the House?

Do nothing record? What have Democrats done to bring the murderers in Benghazi to justice?

Democrats are clearly panicking about further investigations of what really happened in Benghazi.

I’m betting it had nothing to do with a YouTube video.

How much treasure do you want to spend to bring those terrorists who killed four Americans to justice?

First, you have to prove "they don't want to work."
