I believe the government sets a minimum wage and all states must abide by that. Many states have raised their minimum wage on their own.

This is because the House republicans won't raise the minimum wage and has not for some time now. While profits for the rich have taken off, no adjustments have been made for the low income. Thus many single women raising children are at risk for poverty because they can't afford the basic cost of living.

Raising the minimum wage would not only put more money into our economy but also unburden many social services.

If you have ever worked at a minimum wage job you know what it is like. The work is usually extremely laborious and no benefits at all.

Del. Greason to constituent: How ‘intellectually lazy’ are you?
Tuesday, Apr. 1, 2014 by Trevor Baratko | 57 comments | Email this story
State Del. Tag Greason, a leading Republican lawmaker and state budget negotiator, shot off a testy email to a disagreeable constituent March 28, calling the Leisure World parent community resident “the problem,” saying she was wasting his time and questioning “how intellectually lazy” she is.

When asked Monday about the exchange, Greason apologized and said he should have “handled it differently.”

Susan Merk, an elderly resident at Leisure World in eastern Loudoun County, initiated the noted email exchange with her delegate March 24 by voicing her support of Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act. “It's imperative that federal Medicaid aid is passing the [Virginia] budget,” Merk wrote.

Greason, an outspoken opponent of expanding Medicaid in Virginia, responded first by thanking Merk for contacting him. He went on to explain his position against expansion, reasoning that “ObamaCare has already proven to be inefficient, costly, and an utter disaster,” and that “Medicaid is one of the largest and fastest-growing parts” of the budget even without expansion.

Merk responded by saying, “This reply is pitiful – it's nothing but partisan rhetoric, false accusations and invalid excuses.”

“I will be sure to vote you out the next time you're up for election,” she said.

Greason's second response to the constituent, in full, is as follows:

“Pitiful because I am willing to enter a dialogue with you? All you liberals are the same. As soon as someone doesn't agree with you, you shut down communication, call the other side names, take your ball and go home. I understand and am saddened by this approach at the federal level … but your reaction below is THE problem. I did not have to write you back … but I did. I think discussing differences is the only way to solve problems … you would rather leap right to the insults. How intellectually lazy are you? You are the problem. Good luck to you. You can not insult your way to 'victory.' If you are not willing to have a civil discussion, please do not write me again. It is a waste of my time. Thanks, Tag.”

The third-term GOP delegate is among a select group of House budget negotiators, or conferees, tapped to work on a budget deal between the House and Senate. The Senate has its own slate of conferees who negotiate with Greason and his House colleagues.

Merk characterized Greason's response as “almost unreal” and “unprofessional.”

“I shouldn't write to him again because I am wasting his time?” Merk said. “How many emails do you think he gets per day from people who disagree with him just like I did? It's his job to listen to the people he represents.”

Greason walked back his remarks Monday.

“I must have been having a very bad day,” Greason told the Times-Mirror. “When one is passionate about his or her role, he can get carried away. Clearly I overstepped with Ms. Merk and for that I am truly sorry. I should have known better than to shoot back at Ms. Merk, it was wrong and I apologize for that."

Avoiding reality must be a full time Republican occupation. After over 40,000 people delivered Ted Cruz an epic smack down on Facebook, you would think that any Republican would be aware enough to not tempt a similar fate. You would be wrong.

Apparently nothing penetrates the arrogant ignorance and hubris of today's Republicans. Example number 666 - Senator Mitch McConnell, who has asked Facebook followers who they'd want as Senate Majority Leader starting in 2015.

Over two thousand comments have been posted thus far. The majority of them are not what Senator McConnell thought he'd be reading - everything from "you need to retire," "Harry. Thanks for asking," to longer comments like this -

At least Reid supports a liveable wage, equal pay for woman, veteran bills, jobs bills, healthcare for everyone, free and fair elections, tax reform, ending corporate tax evasion, clean drinking water, disaster relief, not borrowing money to start unnecessary wars, not stealing and destroying farm land so oil companies and foreign countries can profit(i.e. Keystone pipeline) he's against voter suppression, he supports teachers, police and fire fighters, fixing our infrastructure, feeding the poor and poor children... Should I continue? Because Mitch has blocked or cut all of the above.

Brown wants New Hampshire families to forgo benefits he used himself

CONCORD, NH – Scott Brown will formally announce his campaign bid for U.S. Senate in New Hampshire tonight with a hypocritical ‘Die Young and Broke’ campaign theme – otherwise advertised as Live Free or Log On. Statement from Granite State Progress Executive Director Zandra Rice Hawkins:

“Scott Brown had no problem logging on when he was collecting health care from the federal government for his own family. Brown even told his hometown paper the Boston Globe that he was keeping his younger daughter on his health plan through age 26, a popular provision available to all families thanks to the Affordable Care Act. Yet, Brown is encouraging Granite State families to forgo health care coverage with a misleading campaign slogan. He might as well be saying die young and broke from lack of health care coverage or medical bankruptcy because that’s what he’s endorsing.”

“Scott Brown’s failed Massachusetts talking points don’t jive with the real benefits tens of thousands of Granite Staters are experiencing thanks to Obamacare. Like Scott Brown’s daughter, 10,000 New Hampshire young adults have remained on their parent’s health insurance plan thanks to the Affordable Care Act. In the last month New Hampshire exceeded expectations for marketplace enrollment and passed Medicaid expansion with a bi-partisan coalition because true Granite Staters know that access to quality, affordable health care coverage means living free from a lifetime of health care problems or escalating medical debt.”

Of course that is after they manufacture a problem for the community and convince people they are victims of the evil conservatives. Forget working, start complaining that will help the community get worse than the victims can even imagine. But they will be progressing by becoming part of a manipulated herd that will go no farther than allowed by their progressive keepers.

How do you think the young people feel when they see this chart? Does Obama expect young people to assume the position for people who should be, or should have been, responsible for themselves? Not that they have a choice, they will get fined or fucked.

Seems getting a job is hard enough and now they are asked to support a law that kills jobs and is on its way to killing over 2 million more.

@coldjoint,
I didn't realize all young people were exactly 27 years old. RW world is amazing.

In the real world the premiums went down for everyone 18-26 since they are on their parent's insurance.

And in the real world when you turn 27 you are fucked. That is something to cheer about? Avoiding the reality of a jobless economy and a mandate to sign up or get fined is a fine is just denial about a failed law.

Also premiums rose when that law went into effect(18 to 26), why don't you ever mention that. Insurance companies just passed that expense to the consumer.

@coldjoint,
Luckily in the real world 27 year olds don't buy their insurance from Heritage blogs. The majority of them get insurance through their job.

You do realize the the mandate is that they WILL get their insurance through their job, don't you?

RW World is so silly. They think when employers are mandated to provide insurance they will stop providing insurance.

@parados,
Why did they delay the employer mandate then? You notice that all the delays have been pushed out till after the mid-term election is over, why is that?

With my costs going up $200 a month this year, I can't wait to see what my new costs will be next year. I wonder if they will climb again or if my employer will offer insurance next year. I might be forced to use the exchange if I want insurance.
