It's all a matter of whose ox gets gored (or gorged).
What's undeniable is the fact that in certain (many? most?) localities in the U.S. (within the past 63 years of my life) black Americans were successfully intimidated and prevented from voting in clear violation of what this country was
supposed to stand for.
By the way, regarding those who say the Voting Rights Act is no longed needed today: Unfortunately, old habits die hard. That's a human trait. For example, look at Hungary today, a country that experienced the Holocaust during WW2. You would think the Hungarians had learned something from their own traumatic experience, but I guess not. There has been a revival of anti-Semitism. Certain right-wing politicians in that country publicly mock the Holocaust. Wallenberg would weep!
