@Zardoz,
You still speak with the certainty of a zealot, there's no room for doubt whatsoever in your thinking.

You're not going to win over many hearts and minds like that.

I'm not certain about anything.

@Zardoz,
Sorry to hear about your wife, mine died in 2004 aged 41 so I have some idea of what it's like.

It does get better.

@izzythepush,
It is hard to deal with and I fully understand why people would want to escape into a fantasy. I would trade places with her if I could.

@izzythepush,
I have spent a lifetime exploring the occult and God's and demons. You would think that if God was into recruiting followers that he would at least make a personal appearance once in a while.

I am an equal opportunity offender sometimes it is best to just plant a seed it may bear fruit later.

I don't think we know everything that can be learned but Gods have a history of coming and going. Why would God wait for the God's of Olympus and others to come before him.

The price for living is dying and we will all pay that price. There is a line from an old country song, “I dare not hide my sorrow in the warm glow of your wine” but that is exactly what we do, we hide our sorrow in the warm glow of fantasy. There are different stages of grief one of them is denial and denial persist for most people the rest of their life. As people denied the obvious evidence of their eyes fantasy breathed life into their denial. Gods and demons emerged from those shared fantasies.

Eternal life, the common fantasy of most religions, devalues our real life. The value of what something is worth governed by the quantity of it. The law of supply and demand takes over. If you kill someone while you are drinking and driving, there is no reason to feel bad because simply went to a better place. If we realize that the life we have is the only life we will ever have, and that an eternal life is a fantasy than we will appreciate this life even more it will become precious. Without the threats of eternal damnation, we would realize that we are responsible for our own moral behavior. The devil did not make us do it. We cannot escape into the next world.

@Zardoz,
There is a poem by Thomas Hardy.

I can't remember the title.

He is in church looking at the certainty of belief in the other worshippers while regretting that he could never feel that way.

@izzythepush,
The only thing I truly believe in is Socialism because it's about substantives.

It deals with the world as it is and how it can be changed for the better.

That's all that we can effect.

Any existence in the hereafter or not isn't anything we can effect or change.

It's what it is.

That's why my focus is on politics.

As long as people aren't spreading hate they can believe whatever they want.

@izzythepush,
I don't know a whole lot about socialism other than it is considered a bad word over here and only a short step from communism.

At one time Communism was considered the great white hope of governments and many prominent Americans journeyed to Russia and came back with rave reviews of Communism and in the 30s Communism became popular in America. The American communist party was making inroads into our government, but WWII put a stop to it. Many of the former communists became conservative republicans after communism became unpopular.

There are good points and bad points to every type of government. When Roosevelt realized that Communism was a real threat to America he took action. The way to defeat a rival political party was to take their better programs and this is what Roosevelt did. Many of the new deal programs were taken first proposed by the American communist party, social security was one.

You are either a magical thinker or you're not. There is no middle ground.

Religious cults are always trying to recruit others and now the plan to use the public school system as a recruiting tool. Laws are currently being passed all over the country that children be told the scientific theory like evolution is nothing but a hunch. Other say only scientific facts can be taught in schools. Of course they will present the bible is the real truth. This is an organized national movement being headed by the Heritage Foundation. The Heritage Foundation put the supreme court judges in, and all these new religious laws will be declared constitutional by the supreme court. Conservatives always want to turn the clock to the good old day of ignorance. They believe ignorance is bliss and they want more of it for the common man.

They spread both hate and ignorance.

People think that God made man in his image, but it was the other way around, man made God in his image. Not only did man make God, man made literally made thousands of Gods and will make thousands more in the future. You would think a being capable of creating a universe and everything in it would be quite different. If it were a science fiction story the writer would imagine a much more magnificent being capable of space travel.

Even the republicans in Oklahoma have signed a petition to investigate the school superintendent who has mandate the bible be taught in schools. It seems it has something to do with misspent money and I would not be surprised if some of it did not find its way into his pockets.

Vlad the Impaler how about Mosses the Impaler. Yes, the great biblical hero liked to impale people. I wonder why they don’t tell that in Sunday school.

Mosses said, “take all the chiefs of the people and impale them in the sun before the Lord, in order the fierce anger of the Lord will turn away from Israel.

Do you recognize human sacrifice? Only the most primitive cultures sacrificed human being to apace a God.

@izzythepush,
America was doing alright until Regan became president and the conservatives did away with the Fairness Doctrine that mandated that both sides of a political argument must be shown on television. Reagan cut the taxes on the ultra-wealthy by 75% and decided that America could live on borrowed money forever. America had a near miss with becoming a communist country in the 30s and early 40s, if the second world war had not happened.

Christian Nationalists try to claim America was based on Jeduo-Christian tradition is a complete and total fantasy. The Christianity organized as dictatorship America as a democracy. In America people are presumed innocent until they are proven guilty, in the bible the innocent are burned at the stake, impaled, hung in trees. Franklin said better that 100 guilty go free than one innocent man to suffer.”

Genesis 34:25 Jacob’s sons “took their swords and came against the city unaware and killed all the males.” To avenge the rape of their sister they killed the rapist—and every other male.

Exodus 23:23 Six races of people are wiped out because they happen to live in Canan a land promised to the Israelites. “When my angel goes in front of you, and brings you to the Amorites, the Hittries, the Perizzites, the Canaaitesn, the Hivites, Jebusites, and blow them out. “

@Zardoz,
Really, you've never had UHC and you've always had mass shootings, not as many as now admittedly.

Your conservative media has convinced you socialism is a dirty word.

For all your "liberal" protestations you still allow the conservative media to direct your thinking.

America was viewed as better post WW2 when you didn't have rationing, a damaged infrastructure and a huge national debt from land lease.

By the time Reagan was in things had moved on, things that previously were only available in America were freely available over here.

Trump was complaining that not enough Europeans want to live in America. Can you blame us? You've got **** healthcare, mass shootings, religious fundamentalists all over the shop and you think socialism is a dirty word.

@izzythepush,
UHC?

It started long before conservative media. After spies sent the Soviet Union the Atomic Bomb secrets there was a major communist scare. I was reading one of the major economic books and when I went to discuss it with a neighbor, in the 60s, he was offended it was socialism to him.

I have been a union officer and president for 41 years I don't think I have any conservative idea. I listened to conservative radio for years but it was to hear their lies so I could take their lies apart online.

The national was in a few years of being paid off when Reagan tripled it. Every president since WWII has paid the debt down, Reagan tripled it to cut the ultra-rich taxed by 75%.

Reagan had a duty to pay the debt off, but he was senile like Trump.

My wife's medical bills have totaled over $180,000 and I have paid almost nothing. I have Medicare that pay 80% and a supplemental policy that picks up the other 20%. She had a $120,000 operation, they called and said we owed $6,000. But when they checked they found we did not owe a penny.

What religion advocates cannibalism? Not only cannibalism but eating your own children? Christianity of course. I could not believe any religion would advocate cannibalism.

Deuteronomy 18:53 “You shall eat the fruit of your womb the flesh of you own sons and daughters.”

How can anybody believe that garbage. You can’t say it was the Old Testament. That God was stupid then and they were eating people anyway then, so he just went along with the crowd. If God was a perfect intelligence, he would never ever gone along with such monstrous actions. If cannibalism was part of the book, it is every bit as valid as the last part of the book. The preachers pick out bits and pieces and ignore other parts. Either the whole book is valid, or it is not cannibalisms and all.

@Zardoz,
Universal Health Care.

It is a common abbreviation.

If you see socialism as a dirty word, similar to communism, then your thinking has been affected by the conservative media.

It's so succesful, you refuse to acknowledge it.

I don't have any medical policies, insurance I pay for, and I still don't get medical bills.

I don't know how much the care would cost because it's free.

That is my right. Free healthcare is a right over here.

I was a shop steward, and pretty much every other shop steward I met was a socialist.

Rank and file membership not so much, but they were all happy to elect left wingers to represent them because they knew we did a better job at standing up for their rights than the so called moderates.

@izzythepush,
I never considered myself a socialist, Bernie Sanders does, and I don't think he would have been elected president because of it. I don't know enough about that system of government. I negotiated several contracts with the City. The question always comes up is the pay raise going to be dollar for dollar or a percentage raise. I made a higher wage than most so a percentage raise was better for me, but most of the time we opted for a dollar raise.

When I started at the city, they would strike over a nickel, but as new hires came in, they would not strike no matter what the city took from them. The hard-earned benefits we worked for; they got as soon as they walked through the door. They had no real value to them they just felt entitled to them. Management employees along with the police and fire were given the same benefits we negotiated. One of the strike captains sent in from New York instructed the local members I have no problem with anybody crossing my picket line, I do have a problem if they make it home.

The Christian God has absolutely no problem killing innocent people. He wiped out the whole world and put Noah on a boat. Sort of reminds you of someone writing a book and tearing up the pages and starting over. A superbeing the supposed source of morality surprisingly has no morality wiping out killing whole races of people with no more thought than stepping on ants. How can he be a super being and not follow your own ten commandments?

Numbers 14:33 “Your children…. shall suffer for your faithlessness.”

This of course teaches that there is no personal responsibility. If your father robs a bank you will go to jail to pay for his sins. America is about personal responsibility we don’t make children pay for their parent’s sins. The difference between the American government and Christianity are legion.

In America we believe that a person is responsible for our own actions. While Christians believe a talking snake talked Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. She then talked Adam into eating the same fruit. Their sin was passed down to all of mankind. Called original sin all of mankind was held responsible. How could people that were not even born yet be held responsible for someone else’s actions? There is no way you can resolve the Christian way of thinking with American belief in personal responsibility.

Christianity clung to a human sacrificial culture for two centuries. Jesus Christ is tortured and killed to atone for our sins. Clearly a human sacrifice. The preacher will put it all in a big box Sunday morning and put a big bow on it and convince you human sacrifice was a good thing. At the very center of Christianity lies human sacrifice.

A general during the biblical days sacrifices his own daughter to win a battle. I wonder if he ever thought he probably would have won that battle anyway? Afterall there were only two sides his odds were pretty good without sacrificing his daughter. This was the mindset of the people that gave us the bible. The founding of America was the first big step away of Christianity. It got us out from under the thumb of an antient human sacrificial cult.
