@oralloy,
There are today’s weapons of war and then there are weapons of war of 400 years ago. There is quite a difference. When someone with an English long box goes to a rock concert and kills 59 and injures 500 others I would then advoke banning them also.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++YYou have a point about how many rounds can be fired and how rapidly they can reload that is pretty much the design parameters of assault weapons. I think pistol grips could make the assault weapons more efficient but if the other two were bought under control pistol grips would not be a problem. These rapid firing weapons are even a problem for police departments. Officers went on a call for a man asleep in a Taco Bell drive thru. There was a gun in the car and they shot him 55 times in 3 seconds and then ask for him to puts his hands up. The gun was not in the man’s hands. Policemen use to wound someone but now if you are close to gun you will be executed on the spot.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I do think pistol grips make assault weapons more efficient but the major problems are the ability to fire hundreds of rounds and reload rapidly.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Do you think we would see as many people killed in mass murders if the shooter had to shoulder the gun?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Why do you think assault weapons were designed with pistol grips instead of like a traditional rifle?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Fifty-nine people killed and 500 injured is mass destruction many of our missile attacks killed far less.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I think we will have to agree to disagree on that point while pistol grips are not the primary reason that make mass murders possible, they help make the problem worse.

That massacre did not involve weapons of war. The guy used bump stocks.

Zardoz wrote:

My point is the opposite. The term "assault weapon" just refers to meaningless things like pistol grips. It doesn't refer to any of the features that deal with rate of fire.

Zardoz wrote:

Shouldering a rifle is the only way that a lot of people can be killed with that rifle.

Without shouldering the rifle, the shots will miss their target and very few people will be killed, if any at all.

Zardoz wrote:

Probably because it isn't possible to grip an adjustable/retractable stock in the traditional manner.

Zardoz wrote:

Weapons of mass destruction kill millions of people with a single shot.

Zardoz wrote:

Those missile attacks do not involve the use of weapons of mass destruction.

The last time the US used weapons of mass destruction was Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

They don't make anything worse. They make no difference.

@oralloy,
The only thing bump stocks do is take advantage of the already existing design capacity of the assault weapons. The bump stock by itself would not kill anyone. Ninety nine percent of the parts are the same as a full automatic and the design capacity to fire rapidly is there.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The guns are marketed by the manufactures as assault weapons and the people that buy them are looking for assault weapons. When American first began to see gangsters use assault weapons to rob banks with, they came from the battlefield.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Not one mass murder that I know of shouldered the rifle. A rifle originally held only a few rounds and you fired at a single target but assault weapons are designed to fire many rounds rapidly. Mass murderers look for crowds and when firing into a large crowd most of the bullets will hit someone. Mass murders don’t go house to house where marksmanship would matter.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
They do make version of the AR-15 with the traditional type stocks but when the mass murderers go to the gun store, they don’t buy that style of assault weapon.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The only time atomics were used was in Japan and only 39,000 people were killed in Nagasaki and 66,000 Hiroshima not millions.

Weapons mass destruction: Nuclear, radiological, chemical, biological, or other devices that are intended harm a large number of people.

Assault weapons are certainly designed to harm a large number of people.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Missiles were designed to carry weapons of mass destruction.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Pistol grips help make mass murder so easy a child could do it.

Zardoz wrote:

Bump stocks don't take advantage of assault weapon features. The same principle can be used with any semi-auto.

More to the point though, it is inaccurate to refer to bump stocks as a weapon of war.

Zardoz wrote:

That last 1% is pretty important.

Zardoz wrote:

So?

Zardoz wrote:

I'm not aware of any gangsters using guns that have pistol grips. But if they did, those pistol grips made little difference.

If they used a weapon that came from the battlefield, that as well would not have mattered.

Zardoz wrote:

If they didn't shoulder their rifle, they would not have killed many people with it.

Zardoz wrote:
A rifle originally held only a few rounds and you fired at a single target but assault weapons are designed to fire many rounds rapidly.

That is incorrect. Having a pistol grip does not impact rate of fire.

Zardoz wrote:

Crowds tend to disperse when fired upon. Mass murderers tend to have to hunt through buildings looking for people to kill.

And even if they were able to hit people randomly, most wounds would be non-lethal in such a case.

Zardoz wrote:

So?

Zardoz wrote:

Those weapons were primitive and small. An ICBM full of half-megaton MIRVs would be quite lethal.

A cruise missile spraying a large cloud of antibiotic-resistant anthrax upwind of a city would be similarly disastrous.

Zardoz wrote:

I know of no other devices that kill millions of people with one shot.

Zardoz wrote:

That is incorrect. Pistol grips on a gun do not mean that it is designed for harming large numbers of people.

Zardoz wrote:

It depends on the missile. Some are and some aren't.

The CIA has a nifty missile that has swords sticking out of its sides when it hits the target (like a giant broadhead arrow). Anyone who is within reach of the swords gets chopped into pieces when the missile strikes, while anyone who is out of reach of the swords is completely unharmed. That's certainly not a weapon of mass destruction.

@oralloy,
Bump stocks are no threat themselves they need a weapon that is capable of firing at a rate of 900 rounds a minute to make them dangerous. They are just used instead of a full-automatic to make an assault weapon fire like an automatic. The weapon of war is the assault weapon not the bump stock it is just a modification.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
That 1% can be replaced by a fast trigger finger.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Assault weapons are designed to kill large number of people that is exactly what mass murderers are looking for. If you want to be famous for all the wrong reasons assault weapons are for you. The last shooter that tried a federal building had several extra clips but locked doors kept him out of the building.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I’ll have to give hightor a thumbs up for the picture and a picture is worth a thousand-words.
Assault weapons ushered in the era of the super gangsters.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
If you had to endure a rifle hitting your shoulder a thousand times you would likely not shoot near as many people.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The design parameters determine the rate of fire. The pistol grip makes it easier to strafe the crowd.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Crowds will rapidly disperse and that is where the rapid fire comes. In Las Vegas 59 people were killed and 500 people injured before the crowd could disperse. The death toll in mass murders would tend to differ with you.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Since they make the AR-15 in a traditional rifle form why are mass murders not using that style?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You did notice that in the definition of weapons of mass destruction chemical weapons were included and depending on wind speed they might only kill a relative few people.

Even when chemical weapons were used in Syria many people survived the attack.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Most of the weapons in the definition of weapons of mass destruction do not kill millions just a large number of people qualifies them as weapons of mass destruction.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The fact is guns with pistols grips have killed large number of people.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Even that missile is designed to kill many people, it is described in the article as “a meteor filled with swords.”
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Pistol grips let you hold an assault weapon at waist level and strafe a crowd with bullets.

What do you think they were invented for — hunting? they were designed for the battlefield.:
Quote:
Many of the infantry rifles employed during World War I boasted superb accuracy at long range. However, their relatively low rate of fire and their overall size (typically more than 5 feet [150 cm] long with bayonet attached) made them unsuitable for the close-quarters combat seen in the trenches of the Western Front. Upon learning of the friction-delayed blowback firing action patented by John Bell Blish in 1915, Thompson, a U.S. Army ordnance officer, sought to incorporate that design into an effective “trench sweeper” weapon. Chambered for .45 calibre—the same cartridge used by the M1911 Colt pistol—Thompson’s “trench sweeper” boasted superb stopping power at the expense of a greatly reduced effective range. By the time Thompson’s prototype was completed, however, World War I had ended.

source
Note that the design was optimal for spraying a lot of lead and killing and maiming groups of people at close range. The pistol grips weren't put there for aesthetics.

Yet another woman has related the story of how Trump raped her. This brings us to 13 credible accusers. How many women will it take before the right will believe that we have a rapist in the Whitehouse? With Bill Cosby it took nearly 50 women before he was finally convicted of rape. It seems that one man’s word is worth the word of 50 women’s word. Is it any wonder that one of every four women in America is raped by someone like Trump? Many people think that rape is only the sex act but inserting any thing into a woman’s vagina against her will, a finger, or any other object is considered rape under the law. Some football players in a nearby town found that out the hard way. They put their fingers into a high school girl that had passed out at a party. They ended up being charged with rape. Until that case I would have thought that it would only be sexual assault. The first thing Trump did was deny he knew the woman but after pictures came to light with Trump talking to the woman, we found out it was just another Trump lie. A generation of young men have come of age with Trump the rapist president. What they learned is that there are no consequences for rape in America at least not for some people. When you are accused of rape you just deny it and if there are not at least 50 women telling the same story you have nothing to worry about. Maybe Trump’s example will result in one out two women being raped in America. Elections do indeed have consequences.

@Zardoz,
There are actually no credible accusers, including this latest lady who talked about rape being "sexy" and how everyone fantasizes about rape... Anderson Cooper couldn't cut to commercial quick enough. This will end up in the dust bin, just like the rest of them. Her only intention was to sell books, she had no story to tell.

@Baldimo,
Every one of the women that accused Trump is creditable and you know it. Why? Because Trump proudly bragged about doing exactly what the women said he did. First you had the accusation of sexual assault then the access Hollywood tape comes to light with Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women. When the criminal brags about his crimes it gives a degree of credibility to his victims they otherwise would never have. The victim told two of her friends after Trump raped her. One woman was a newscaster the other the author of a best-selling book. Both confirmed the rape victim’s account. The author advised her to file rape charges while the news caster told her Trump was too powerful to bring charges against. I can tell you one thing if it happened here Trump would be in jail. The high school football players did the same thing that Trump did and they went to jail. Many criminals are in jail today because they had to brag about the crimes they committed. Many criminals just can’t keep their mouth shut.

Why would you even try to defend that low life? You know he did it. One woman accuses him there may be doubt about her motive but when thirteen accuse him and he confirms it how can any reasonable person doubt he did it? Face it, we have a rapist in the White House and that is only his good points.

In cases where you have multi victims it makes it them slam dunk. When you have two or more people telling the same story the judge has no trouble convicting the defendant. Having thirteen victims telling the same story would be a dream case. I only had one case that had over ten victims and it was an easy conviction on behalf of all the victims. If Trump were tried in a court of law for rape it would be a slam dunk. The problem is some crimes have a statute of limitations for rape in New York it is 5 years and rape is by far the most unreported crime. If charges are not bought within that 5 years they can never be bought. The 13 women who were either raped or sexually assaulted by Trump are beyond that statute of limitations. Trump can only be tried in the court of public opinion. Where a court of law would easily convict him politics rules in the court of opinion. Polls shows that if you voted for Trump you would not believe 100,000 women with video taped evidence but if you voted against Trump you would likely believe the charges if there was even one accuser.

For those who refuse to believe that Trump sexually assaulted the 13 women I’ll remind you that you have wives and daughters and Trump will serve as roll model for 100s of thousands of would be molesters and when your daughters or wives are sexually assaulted you will share the blame for trivializing sexual assault. When they are shoved up against a wall and their pants pulled you can tell yourself it never happened.

The legislature passes laws but after the laws are passed, they must be enforced. Speed limits are a good example at one time they were tightly enforced if you exceeded the limit by as little as one MPH you might get a ticket. When the speed limits on the interstate were lowered to 55 MPH the law changed so that you would no longer get points on your driver’s license if you were no more than 10 MPH over. This allowed people in hurry to exceed the limit by 10 mph and only worry about the ticket. When the speed limits returned to 70 the law remained the same but the police now seldom bother to write tickets for those going 10 MPH over the limit. This has effectively raised the effective speed limit. The same thing has happened with the laws on sexual assault. They are seldom enforced for simple sexual assault while violent rape is more likely to be enforced. At one time the rape of virgin was considered a property crime. The girl’s father was the aggrieved party and due damages for the rape. If you look at how sexual assault law evolved in America you will find the age of consent was 10 at one time and was later raised to 14.

Stopping serial sexual assaulters like Trump is going to require stricter enforcement of existing laws. People like Trump who sexually women try to get the women alone so there are no witnesses but if each woman reports it to the police soon there will be several accusation which will make them credible but if women don’t report the sexual assaults serial rapist like Trump will continue to sexually assault 100s of women.

Trump was in North Korea holding Kim Jong-un hand. The North Korean dictator continues to violate the terms of the treaty by continuing to test fire missiles but Trump decides to overlook the violations even though his administration made it extremely clear that the north Korean dictator is violating the terms of the treaty. Why is Trump doing this? He got a bump in his popularity polls when he was negotiating with North Korea and hopes the visit will give him another bump in the polls. Trump openly admires dictators and hopes to emulate them in America.

Dictator Trump now says that he will delay the 2020 census if they can’t add the question, “Are you a citizen?” If this question is added to the census the census will not truly represent the population of the United States. That question would insure that 11 people million will not be counted in the census. With the current climate the census results would be used to locate and deport the illegal aliens and dreamers. The dreamers and illegals might not be citizens but they are not stupid either. Why would you want to declare that you are here illegally and give the government your address so they can arrest you? But the worst part is the consequences for the rest of us if the census does not represent the actual population. The census is used to decide how many roads and schools are needed in area. The census is used to distributes government money needed for infrastructure. If a city has 2 million citizens that are not counted in the census the roads would be inadequate as well as the rest of the infrastructure. American citizens would suffer the consequences but if Trump get his way far more republicans would get elected and that is the real reason for that question.

All dictators have a military procession to show off their military hardware and to intimidate the population. Of course, after all Trump knows every dictator worth his salt has a military procession. Trump just had to have one of his own. He wanted one for Veteran’s day and the Pentagon advised him it would cost several hundred million dollars and would be a waste of taxpayer dollars. That seemed to kill the idea for a while but Trump just waited a year and changed the date from Veteran’s Day to the Forth of July. Now tanks will roll down the street of Washington to be reviewed by our glorious leader and his family. Planes will fly overhead, Air Force One, and the Blue Angles. It will cost the taxpayers millions but it will stroke the ego of our glorious draft dodging leader.

The Trump campaign rally will be held in Washington DC tomorrow. The Republican National Committee is handling the tickets for the VIP section. Neither the Republican National Committee nor Trump are paying for this campaign rally. The money collected for admittance to the National Parks is going to pay for the millions it will cost for Trump’s campaign rally. This money is collected to maintain and make improvements in the National Parks not provide Trump with millions for his campaign rally.

We had a triathlon held in our local state park the park was maintained by the Corp Of Engineers. This was a beautiful place for a triathlon. After several years the road leading into the park was covered in pot holes so bad that it was dangerous. A bad accident took place when one biker trying to avoid a pothole was struck by a faster bike. The accident took place on a fast downhill. The triathlon was moved to town where you had to swim in an open sewer know as the Ohio river. Raw sewage is dumped into the river 60 times a year. It been eleven years since the triathlon was moved from the park. The road is slowly reverting back to a dirt road. They did make an attempt to patch it this year. The Corp started charging $5 to use the boat ramp three years ago to repair the road but now the money has been stolen to pay for Trump’s campaign rally. Our National Parks our in bad shape and Trump should be allowed to steal the money for his campaign rally.

I was at a Fourth of July celebration at my daughter house when my son-in-law was criticized for having Wheel of Fortune on, he turned to his “other” favorite channel, the Fox Lie Factory and there was Trump’s campaign rally. Sine Trump could not have his military equipment parade he got the next best thing a parade of planes and helicopters. Trump spends his time wrapping himself in the heroic accomplishments of others as reading them would somehow made him part of the military accomplishments of others. Following Trump’s speech they played the Lee Greenwood song, “Proud to be an American” when the singer got to the line “I would gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today” it had reached the theater of the absurd as that 73 year old draft dodger tried to wrap himself in patriotism of others. Trump would not stand up next to anyone he ran the other way secured not one deferment but five. But Trump is a career conman and that is what conmen do the real problem is his cult of followers who believe the con. Every time you study a cult you realize what makes people follow a cult-leaders and why they follow conmen like Trump. If Trump told his followers that they needed to castrate themselves to enter the Kingdom of Trump many would. One cult leader actually did that and every male member of the cult did get castrated with one exception and he had a home castration that went wrong.
