There are today’s weapons of war and then there are weapons of war of 400 years ago. There is quite a difference. When someone with an English long bow goes to a rock concert and kills 59 and injures 500 others I would then advocate banning them also.

You have a point about how many rounds can be fired and how rapidly they can reload that is pretty much the design parameters of assault weapons.

Do you think we would see as many people killed in mass murders if the shooter had to shoulder the gun?

Why do you think assault weapons were designed with pistol grips instead of like a traditional rifle?

many of our missile attacks killed far less.

I think we will have to agree to disagree on that point while pistol grips are not the primary reason that make mass murders possible, they help make the problem worse.

The only thing bump stocks do is take advantage of the already existing design capacity of the assault weapons.

The bump stock by itself would not kill anyone. Ninety nine percent of the parts are the same as a full automatic and the design capacity to fire rapidly is there.

The guns are marketed by the manufactures as assault weapons and the people that buy them are looking for assault weapons.

A rifle originally held only a few rounds and you fired at a single target but assault weapons are designed to fire many rounds rapidly.

Mass murderers look for crowds and when firing into a large crowd most of the bullets will hit someone. Mass murders don’t go house to house where marksmanship would matter.

They do make version of the AR-15 with the traditional type stocks but when the mass murderers go to the gun store, they don’t buy that style of assault weapon.

The only time atomics were used was in Japan and only 39,000 people were killed in Nagasaki and 66,000 Hiroshima not millions.

Weapons mass destruction: Nuclear, radiological, chemical, biological, or other devices that are intended harm a large number of people.

Assault weapons are certainly designed to harm a large number of people.

Missiles were designed to carry weapons of mass destruction.

Pistol grips help make mass murder so easy a child could do it.

I'm not aware of any gangsters using guns that have pistol grips.

Many of the infantry rifles employed during World War I boasted superb accuracy at long range. However, their relatively low rate of fire and their overall size (typically more than 5 feet [150 cm] long with bayonet attached) made them unsuitable for the close-quarters combat seen in the trenches of the Western Front. Upon learning of the friction-delayed blowback firing action patented by John Bell Blish in 1915, Thompson, a U.S. Army ordnance officer, sought to incorporate that design into an effective “trench sweeper” weapon. Chambered for .45 calibre—the same cartridge used by the M1911 Colt pistol—Thompson’s “trench sweeper” boasted superb stopping power at the expense of a greatly reduced effective range. By the time Thompson’s prototype was completed, however, World War I had ended.
