@fresco,
The murder rate for police officers and others in the UK will take an even more of a dive when the ban on the sales of large kitchen knives become law.

Those evil knives manufacturers.

A bit difficult to go lower than zero for police !
NB. Handguns are specifically cited for US police figure as opposed to knives, sharpened screwdrivers or hatpins, but general point taken !

Let the record indicate that I have never told anyone to join the police.

I am unwilling to compromize my Constitutional Right to self-defense,
for the benefit of anyone else. IF the police honor their oath
to support the Constitution, then thay will join me
in fighting against gun control.

Indeed, even if I had joined the police,
I 'd still have opposed gun control as vigorously as possible.

I wanna live in a WELL ARMED SOCIETY,
committed to Individualism, laissez faire capitalism and hostile to collectivism.

That is what America is all about:
the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

America was NOT created for the convenience
nor the benefit of the police.

True however you just expand the time frame until you have a few British cops kill in the line of duty by guns or others means.

I suspect that he is referring
to the progressive diminution
and strangulation of personal freedom,
by the collective,
including the personal right to EXIST.

It is the innermost, sacrosanct faith of the left
that the answer to every problem
is to curtail, reduce and choke the personal freedom of the Individual citizen.

Your self defence argument surely requires one at the most, so what does more than one tell us about you ?

That statistic does not tell u anything,
but I will tell u that I collect guns and coins of old gold and silver.
I also collect kaleidoscopes.
Do u think that I have too many of any of them ????
Shoud I throw some in the garbage ?

Inquiring minds wanna know!

David, nobody is disputing your right to have your opinion (or gun), or anyone to have an opinion (or gun), for that matter, but you keep beating the drum about it. Do you have to make your point every single time an issue arises? That's my question for you. Must you continually proselytize?

Well, if a RELEVANT issue arises,
then it seems like a good idea, yeah.

If an irrelevant issue arises, then: no.

Relevance is the criterion.

Sometimes, people comment on me by NAME,
or on my expressed position.

@fresco,
Because their position is supported by the Constitution.

Whatever you think about the effects of private gun ownership, it is protected by the 2nd Amendment.

You're not going to change minds on the topic with isolated statistics.

If you are committed to gun control, focus your efforts on having the Constitution appropriately amended.

As far as David weighing in on these threads ebeth, why would you consider him proselytizing and not frisco or calamity Jane?

If people really can't stand David's opinions on gun control, I would suggest they stop repeatedly posting their own, because everyone know he will show up on a gun related thread.

@OmSigDAVID,
What it tells us, together with your incessant posts on the subject, is that you are fond of guns ! For all we know you are obsessed with guns. All this blather about the constitution could be a side show in support of an obsession.

Let us hope you stay in control of your collection and not vice versa!

@Finn dAbuzz,
Is your conclusion that the appalling figures for US police murder by hand-guns is nothing to do with US gun laws ?

Yes; maybe u did not see my posts
wherein I told of my lusting
for the revolvers of police, when I was 3.
(I don't remember much before then.)

Yes; I 've given them a lot of thawt.

Yes; that 's OK, as long as the USSC agrees with me. (HELLER and McDONALD cases)
Its the same as being obsessed with reading newspapers or obsessed with voting in elections.

Vice-versa is IMPOSSIBLE,
because inanimate objects cannot control anything by themselves.

@fresco,
I've been looking, and as best I can find, the total in the line of duty deaths for U.S. police officers 2010 is 162. Including 43 auto accidents, 13 heart attacks, and 59 by gunfire. Your thread title is shamelessly bull crappy.

While 59 shooting deaths is not good, it's a far cry from what you are trying to peddle here.

The Officer down memorial page contains all the specifics including the names of officers fallen in the line of duty.

@wayne,
143 police officers commited suicide in 2009, can't find how many used a gun.
