Hes doing watercolors too? I think his more abstract impressions of the landscapes are my favorites. I linked to the "download catalogue" but it was to an e-mail site. I dont ask for trouble, so I never go to an e-mail without knowing the recipient. Nevere know who they touched last.

Thanks for the link Vivien. I like "Landscape with a red sky" the best. Gorgeous colour and design.

yes, he's always done watercolours as well and they are more traditional, observational, done plein air and full of a sense of place.

I agree, it's those wonderful big abstracted pieces I love and there are lots of these in pastels and in oils. It's a shame you can't see the experimental canvasses with cantilevered sections and mirrors as they are really interesting and beautiful.

is it worth downloading the catalogue to a disc and checking it for viruses before opening - it should be ok shouldn't it? my computer knowledge is limited here but someone who knows more could perhaps say.

I don't think I've shown these pastels I've done for an upcoming show?

Small, just 9ins square but I want to do some large canvasses in the series.

I did some quite traditional little studies of pansies that I'd bought to set in the garden and though I preferred the pretty soft mauves and yellows - the colours that appealed to me to take forward into the abstracts were the ones with purple merging into burgundy and cadmum yellows. They aren't meant to be pansies - that's just where the colours came from. In fact a little bit of bearded iris sort of crept in there as well Very Happy

how ya gonna frame them? Theyre neat. We were at a pastel show this past weekend and they must be making some new colors cause there were some really bright values .

I've framed them in a pale slim wooden frame with 3 inch off white mount, 3.5 inches at the bottom. They look right.

I have a 'thing' for very plain and simple frames that let the image show. (this is also what buyers want I find, to go with contemporary homes)

I'd considered a slim dark frame but liked the pale wood better in the end.

It works out cheaper to have the frames and mounts made to measure but for me to then put the image in - dearer if the framer does that as well - I HATE doing this with pastels! they are so messy and it is so so easy to get smudgy prints on the mount or bits of pastel on the glass that you don't notice until you've put it all together and sealed the back Evil or Very Mad

when are you going to post your recent work? we're waiting to see it Very Happy

and Osso have you done any new work?

Vivien, I would have liked to see those two pictures framed as a diptych. I have lots of new stuff but do not know how to scan, store/file and send them. My Mac laptop did not come with a manual, so I'm only using it for email.
Anyone have the same machine and willing and able to advise me? Remember, I'm a technophobe who had to undergo therapy in order to adjust to the ballpoint pen.

I had an IBM scanner and dumped it for one of those AIO (all in one) scanner, fax, copier etc. They are easy to operate and compatible with my work.
Vivien, Ive been doing only a few sketches lately, nothing major as were getting our gear together for hauling up to our boat. I want to take art equip along for the trip out to sea but were going to be space limited and Im gonna be limited to only 2 pad, ink, and some tubes of wc.
Im still figuring out how to have my work hosted without too much trouble.
I like JL's idea , but I like odd numbers of works. Do one more and frame as a triptych.

JL, do you have a scanner?

This stuff is easy once you know how and impossible for some of us if we don't.

We can give you the basics, I bet, as a team, and if you still have trouble at least you'll know more about it, and then hire someone to come to the house and walk you through it. (Heh, if they know.)

The trick has to do with getting a scanned image to the right size (fairly small in terms of the units for photo images) to put in a post, and there are websites (Imageshack, Photobucket) that do that for you. After you get your scanned photo from your desktop (or a file) on one of those sites, it is just a matter of cut and pasting that URL address into a window in a2k's Post Reply page.

I am guessing that by now there are threads in the Forum Help forum that break the steps down. Vivien is particularly good at adding photos...

eek 'particularly good at adding photos'! ?

Photobucket does have some instructions for Mac users I think - the problem with Macs is the file type and I know very very little about Macs. With PC's it needs to be a jpeg but with Macs I don't know.

You can scan an image and reduce the size as you scan - 25% or whatever, which would automatically give you an appropriately sized file - Photobucket also does the sizing for you if you don't want to do it yourself

Linking Photobucket to a2k to make the image appear is easy, you simply click on IMG above where you are typing a reply and paste the IMG line from photobucket in there - your reply then has the address bracketed by IMG either side and the picture appears when you either preview or post.

re the framing
I actually had a 3rd frame made the same size to do a 3rd image in the series - so great minds thinking alike! These 2 went into the show I was doing them for yesterday, private view tonight. I don't expect it to be a good show for selling as it is with a local society, so I'll be able to add a 3rd image - I could maybe rethink the framing and put them in one frame with 3 apertures cut - I'll see. Yes, Farmer I like odd numbers too.

Thanks, Vivien. Good luck with the show tonight.
I've saved your clearly written paragraph--

"Linking Photobucket to a2k to make the image appear is easy, you simply click on IMG above where you are typing a reply and paste the IMG line from photobucket in there - your reply then has the address bracketed by IMG either side and the picture appears when you either preview or post"--

with the assumption that someday, I'll understand it. Smile Embarrassed Rolling Eyes

you will soon...

when an image is saved, depending on the scanner program or whether you use a program like Adobe, the image it can be saved in one of several possible formats. I forget why various ones are better than the others for what use, but the main one for posting images on a website such as a2k is the jpeg format. (Not sure format is the word, I am a dolt here, you know). You can tell usually because the label that comes up at the bottom of the image will have the letters jpeg at the end.

So, do you have a scanner? (I have some slight memory that you do...)

all correct Very Happy

I'd been using Photoshop and the computer for ages and ages before I understood that there were different file formats! I'd just saved every image as a psd (photoshops own format). My knowledge is still limited to what i need to know

When you click 'save' to save an image in a folder on your computer you can click a pull down arrow at the bottom of the save window, which will be showing whatever format your camera/scanner/whatever sends it to your computer in. (it could be a bitmap/whatever or it may already be a jpeg)

When you click the pull down arrow there are a load of other formats to choose from - choose jpeg and it will be compatible with the web and other peoples computers. Some Macs read jpeg files from PC's I think from what a friend with a Mac says.

If you don't know how to resize the image, don't worry as Photobucket will do it for you.

Part of my trubble is that my scanner is an IBM and the format isnt compatible with my puter. So Im off this week to buy one of those all in one. Course , I could have my secretary or It guy do it , but being that its my company and Im not trying to set wicked examples , Im gonna dog this out before we leave for sea and Im gonna scan the crap outa my ocean voyage.

RIGHT NOW I NEED SOME HELP> need some MSDS (material safety data sheets) on this new Winsor Newton granulation medium and their new lifting medium. I wanna tryt it but in an airbrush for zone coverage. I dont want to gas myself like I did with their damn Cobalt blue. They specifically (even though they say non-toxic) dont want their Cads and Cobalts and other metal bases (vermillion) airbrushed. WEll. I dont like the wimpy airbrush colors in doc Martin . Id rather use Snnelier or WN watercolors in the spray.
SO I NEED MSDS's . Anybody know where is the info (dont try WN, their website really sux)

There's also Imageshack.com, which I think some people like better.
