I married a real man and I didn't have to "train" him.

I grew up with a father and brother who were real men so maybe I was just able to recognize one when he came along.

I think it's a huge mistake to marry someone with the hope that you can train him to be the person you want him to be.

The refrain through our 25 years together has been "You knew that and you married me anyway......"

(To which the other replies "What was I thinking!")

Every woman I hear lamenting that they ' want a man" or ask "where are the men" expect them to come knocking on the door.

1) make a decision that you are going to look and be available.
2) hang out in places where you think like-minded people gather - whether that is a bar or a museum, at least you will have something in common.
3) accept the humaness of all people. Look beyond the superficial.
4) know that this love may hurt like a pair of brand new shoes.

The expectation that any relationship is going to fit a certain form, such as marriage is, is a deal killer... Relationships are dynamics... They are changing all the time, like a game where the cards are shuffled every time a hand is played... It is nice to have a certain general agreement between people going in, but the perfect marriage is a myth... An enduring and successful relationship that feeds every need is the goal... Shakespeare said that when two people ride a horse, some one has to sit in front... What does it matter who leads and who follows if the goal is the same.... My wife has got a better mind than my poor old thing... So what if I let her do most of the thinking, except that it is unfair... It is not fair, and it is not equal... I just adore her..

As long as they're not ON the couch all day, it's OK.

Day by day women are searching fro the "one". But our searches are constanlty ending with disapointment. WHAT IS THE REAL PROBLEM?

I think your first sentence is the cause of your second sentence. THAT IS THE REAL PROBLEM.

I have wasted years of my life searching for "the one" pair of jeans that will fit me, be comforable, and attractive.

There is no such thing, same as there is no one person who will fulfil all your needs.

The problem also lies in many people thinking someone or something else will give them happiness.

There is a saying where I'm from.

"Men's hobbies are building engines, fixing dents, and repairing cars. Women's hobbies are building relationships, fixing boys, and repairing men."

It always went without saying that women's hobbies were a waste of time.

That said, I've always been a little offended by the notion of "fixing a man." It does nobody any good. For women, it raises the premium on "potential," and devalues already good men. For men, it means that you've no incentive to build your character because someone will find value in you whether you deserve it or not.

All crap.

I applaud you for not taking the road of "training" your man. That says to me that you knew what you wanted, and what you wanted was equal. Cheers.

Ha! I couldn't agree more.

Your points on why you take offense are perfectly valid and they're something women should know and work to understand.

"Where are all the real women?"

Being re-trained at the Simon Cowell School for Celebrity Wannabes. During the first term they learn how to become obsessed with the colour pink.

@Fido,
Quote:
Sorry lady... Too many boys are raised by women who can only teach them to be boys
Often true even in families where a male is around, because so often these males are emotionally and spiritual impotent, are unable to compete with the females in their lives....they get run over and they can not show boys how to be men.

Ma'am; None of us is beyond reclamation, exactly... When a daughter has no brothers, and grows up knowing her father and having only him as an example of the way men should behave she has a really false example since by the time a male gets to be a father he already has the greater part of his rough edges rubbed off of him...

Boys being boys, lazy, lying, patience trying, farting and disrespecting animals give a girl a better idea of what men in general are... Unreasonable expectations of boys, but of life in general, is a great cause of unhappiness... I am very often depressed, and yet generally conceive of myself as happy because I expect so little of life... Life can be great, and has been for me at times... For all of us, life can run the continuum from beautiful to terrible and back again... To think life is supposed to be a single thing, especially some great thing when in fact, it is all things to all people is a guarantee of misery.... Expect the worst, and you will enjoy anything better... I have seen the worst, but even I know my worst was bearable... For many, the worst they encounter is in no sense bearable, and our help is needed.
