Yes. I read the column this morning and figured it's Nate's way of alerting us that maybe we should be taking a second look...or at least pay some attention.

Who knows...maybe Cain will look for a #2 spot on the Republican ticket.

As much as I want Cain to be president, I would be satisfied if he is VP.

@realjohnboy,
Wow. Comparing the Bs to the Cs, it almost looks like the better we know them (well, recognize their names), the less we like them.

@roger,
I'm a Dem, Roger, simply reporting here as best as I can. I won't comment on your observation.
Cain has no chance, in my mind. No staff, no money, no real experience in the public sector. He will get no traction in Iowa or New Hampshire. He might get something in South Carolina, but I suspect it will be too little, too late, even for the #2 spot.

@roger,
I don't find that too surprising! I think that will also apply to any democrat.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has said this week he will now consider running, as soon as the current Texas session ends.

@edgarblythe,
Edgar is correct. Here's a write up. Several possible candidates are getting all wiggly.

@Lash,
Giuliani, according to a just out CNN poll, would be tied with Romney amongst GOP people polled. At first glance that seems odd to me. but on reflection it is making a bit of sense.

I'd like to offer one more remark about Newt Gingrich. (And I apologize if it has been offered before---I have followed this thread but sluggishly.)

This isn't the first time Gingrich crashed and burned. The man is a little crazy after all. But this time, the Republican party blew him off for failing to drink the CoolAid on the Ryan plan to abolish Medicare. In other words, the GOP dumped Gingrich because he failed to be crazy enough! What does that tell us about the GOP?

Whoever the eventual Republican nominee for Prez is, they are going to face an uphill battle in several swing states due to the fact that the recent crop of GOP governors have proven to be very unpopular -

It's hard to see how this doesn't work out poorly for the Republicans in FL and OH and WI in particular.

@Cycloptichorn,
With so many republicans throwing their hat into the ring, is it any wonder that the voters will be more splintered than otherwise.

Sigh. Are you serious? Obama isn't 'pretty unpopular.' At all. His popularity is currently higher than Reagan's was at this point in his presidency (by 8 points!) and higher than Clinton and Bush 2.

Keep on telling yerself that, though. It'll come true sooner or later.

Missed ya at the meetup.
