Rick Perry will garner more notice when he journeys to New York to replace Trump as keynote speaker at GOP dinner.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for reminding me. Also watching Perry. I sneaked out of the loop for a while - and I don't have any idea about these guys' views. I like the tad I know about a couple of them, though. Not your usual fare... Smile

I'm having fun watching the MSM complain about Palin. Watched Rachel Maddow last night whine and moan some nonsense for about 10 minutes until she gave me a headache. Man, what a boring program. I think she should do a little dance around the studio like the other dyke, Helen Degenerate.

LOL!

Obama media trashes Palin labeling her an idiot, but for some reason they are unable to ignore her... this tells me that the Obama media is made up of brainless idiots that are envious of Palin.

In Huntsman news: PPP recently polled Iowa, and asked self-described Conservatives and Republicans to pick their favorite candidate in the 2012 elections.

Huntsman scored poorly; he got one. Not one percent, ONE person said they favored him over the other candidates.

Good luck getting a sane guy elected in the modern GOP.

Obama now knows that everything thing he’s tried; his moronic and economically destructive Pelosi-designed stimulus plan, his hire-more-government-workers jobs programs, his promoting of jobs-killing unions, his animosity toward private enterprise … none of it is working. So of course he’s going to blame Bush. We’ll keep hearing phrases from the Obamajahadeen about “turning the corner” and “moving in the right direction” as Barry begs for another term so that he can continue his “fundamental transformation” of the United States.

I was wandering around pundits' threads today and found one about the perceived need for the the Repubs to come up with a plan to attract the Hispanic vote. Sen Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Gov Susana Martinez (R-NM) are mentioned as possible VP candidates.
Apparently, according to a guy who writes on Larry Sabato's thread, the name Luis Fortuno comes up in some of Pawlenty's campaign stuff. I can't vouch for that, though.
Luis Fortuno, you ask? As did I. He is the Governor of Puerto Rico. Young, dynamic and popular, I hear.
Pawlenty sure is running a strange campaign, telling Iowans that he would end ethanol subsidies. And talking nice about a potential VP candidate from a "foreign" country?

@realjohnboy,
If Pawlenty could get more than a few percentage points in a poll, I'd care/worry about him. As it is, neither he nor Huntsman have made any real impact at all so far.

@realjohnboy,
I have no idea how Susana Martinez is perceived by Hispanic voters. It may come down to how each of them feels about illegal immigration, which may or may not be a big issue to most Hispanics. She campaigned for governor as being opposed to the issuance of drivers licenses to illegals. She won. Last I heard, she was now taking on the issue of revoking previously issued licenses. Her support may give an indication of how that particular issue is perceived. It also may not.

@roger,
Roger: I know nothing about Susana Martinez (R-NM).
Here in the east, there are some interesting issues involving the broad subject of immigration, illegal aliens, "Mexican's'' etc. I can get back to that if asked.
But, please enlighten me on this. Is it true that, in your part of the country, there is a backlash developing amongst legal immigrants (and citizens of Hispanic descent) that conservatives such as Martinez could play on?
Thank you.

@realjohnboy,
Tough questions. I doubt Hispanics have any groundswell feelings against legal immigrants, though there is room for individual variation. I'm sure what you suggest is not unknown, but I just don't think it's going to be even remotely decisive in a political sense. Truely, I see no political advantage in Martinez's following through on this.

The only certainty is that Navajos don't like "Mexicans" - the quotes because anyone with any Hispanic ancestry is taken to be Mexican. Just in my personal experience, that's the only strongly held feeling in my own town, which is about equally divided between Navajo, Hispanic, and "Anglo" - Anglo being anything Northern European.

ETA: I don't see any political significance.

I hadn't known that Huntsman was so pro-life:

Quote:
"As governor of Utah I signed every pro-life bill that came to my desk," Hunstman told the crowd. "I signed the bill that made second-trimester abortions illegal, and increased the penalty for doing so. I signed the bill to allow women to know the pain an abortion causes an unborn child. I signed the bill requiring parental permission for abortion. I signed the bill that would trigger a ban on abortions in Utah if Roe v. Wade was overturned."

Expect no social conservative "truce" like the one Mitch Daniels tried to sell back when he was considering a White House run, Huntsman made clear.

"You see, I don't think the Republican party should focus on our economic life to the neglect of our human life. That is a trade we should not make," Huntsman said. "If Republicans ignore life, the deficit we face is one that is much more destructive. It will be a deficit of the heart and of the soul."

@realjohnboy,
Martinez would attract the conservative, anti-illegal immigrant Hispanic vote much the way any other conservative nominee would, Hispanic ethnicity notwithstanding. The thing is, I think there are more moderate and liberal Hispanics in regard to the II issue than there are conservative ones. If it were based on this sole issue, Martinez would not attract the general Hispanic vote.
