@sozobe,
I figured it was something like that...maybe Florida's swing-state history, too. I'll pay more attention to people like him once he declares and it gets way closer. I wonder what the Conservatives think of him? I did scan one article in Politico last week that said he's the one most feared by the Democrats, but it didn't matter since they don't really think he'll run.

@Cycloptichorn,
There is really no Southerner in the race, although H20 may disagree with that about Cain.
I see today that Perry of TX may be thinking of a run.
And Bachmann, as an aside, said today she may move up an announcement. I hope she does jump in.

@Irishk,
He's most feared by Dems because he most likely to pull the swing vote away from Obama. He's what's sometimes called a "Moderate Republican" meaning that he's a fiscal conservative but liberal on most social issues. He served happily under Obama until April. He'll never survive the primaries.

@realjohnboy,
I've never really thought of Floridians as Southeners. I've only been to a few selected cities there, though.

@sozobe,
I took that as just another Obama slur. That he's not really black.

Not as much as I hope she does, I guarantee you!

Don't bet on Perry running - he's the big fish in a small pond right now, moving up the ladder wouldn't work well for him. Not to mention the fact that the last Gov' from Texas was a disaster, and Perry was his right-hand man for years.

Mitch Daniels has the same problem - he was Bush's budget director during the period when the most foolish of policies were put in place. If I were running the opposition ad campaign against him, I would use that to absolutely destroy him.

With so many in the race, I can't figure out who will. Romney raised a ton of money yesterday. I guess if forced to pick one, he's as good as any.

@JPB,
It's the biggest, all right.

Reading about the possibility that two men will soon spend close to a billion dollars on each of their campaigns, I keep thinking about something I once read from the late David Broder...paraphrasing:

Any man who's willing to do what it takes to become president, probably should never be president.

@Irishk,
Take it from me: Florida is NOT a Southern state.

I am probably repeating myself somewhat with these comments:
> The Teaparty movement got out on the front about all things economic. I commend them for that. They stayed, for the most part, away from social issues.
> They failed to realize, though, that there are many folks in the major parties who are beholden to people who oppose hopping on the economy as the main issues.
> I saw today an article noting that mass media reports including the word "unemployment" has dropped dramatically.
> Romney has the biggest balloon in the (dated) graphic above, but he heads into Iowa with some big problems for the Repub establishment:
.... Iowa is a conservative state and social issues are going to be big
.... Romney has Romneycare that is mirrored by Obamacare
.... Romney is not a fresh face that many Repubs feel they need
.... Romney is a Morman

(No, I'm neither a Democrat nor a Republican. I'm just an outsider looking in. Sad I just thought this editorial cartoon was funny.)

@H2O MAN,
I don't doubt it, and I'm afraid the line is a long one for both parties.
