The Republican Nomination For President: The Race For The Race For The White House

@Ceili,
The primaries are roughly (very roughly) equivalent to a leadership convention. If Ceili is elected as the NDP leader by the leadership convention, that is not really materially different from the nominating process in an American political party. Half of the delegates are required to vote for the candidate who won their primary or their caucuses, but thereafter, if that candidate does not win it all on the first ballot, they are free to vote as they choose. Candidates who take their party convention by storm are very rare.

The other major difference is that you don't an office equivalent to President. If you are the NDP leader, and the NDP gets the most seats in the Commons, the Ceili becomes the PM, so long as you win in your riding. Apples and oranges to the American system.

The debate amongst the 4 remaining Repubs (with a milquetoast moderator) will likely be about attacking Obama ahead of the State of the Union address on Tuesday.
House Speaker Boehner has already declared that whatever Obama says will be "pathetic." Don't bother reading or listening to it. It will be pathetic.

a fair prediction, as Obama has never shown any ability to rise above the political game, even as he constantly derides the political game. The lies wear thin after awhile.

Another of your "thums" up postings of the English language, Merry.

Actually, given your support over the years for prescriptivism, it's been apparent that you are quite anal retentive.

@hawkeye10,
Has Boehner ever shown any ability to rise above the political game?
Whichever side you or I may come down on that, Hawk, is irrelevant. The real issue will come down to how frustrated or angry with the political process the voters are. That will likely be demonstrated in the U.S. house and senate races and state and local contests.

Rick Santorum wins in Iowa (after a recount). Mitt Romney wins in New Hampshire. Newt Gingrich wins in South Carolina. Jon Huntsman, Rick Perry, and Michele Bachmann have dropped out. There is only 1 thing clear after the first 3 primaries: Republicans definitely do not want Ron Paul as their nominee. Honestly, his anti-war/isolationist stance would probably get him more votes as a Democrat.

Yes if Obama was not in office Ron might have the best chance of winning.

Of course not. He is much much too honest to ever get the Repug nod.

Note how he scares Roger.

@JTT,
I do not see him as honest, being he has some old Ron Paul news letters that were racist and he said that he knew nothing about them until after the fact. I find that hard to believe. He may be embarrassed now that he is older but if that is the case he should say that he sees things very different now.

I know that no one is perfect.

@jcboy,
That's the condition of the republican party; split three ways. They won't know who their real leader is until after the caucus circus is over.
