@revelette,
Revelette: Digging through the exit polling in SC one last time, the question was asked "How important is it that a candidate share your religious beliefs?
In SC, 60% said it was very or somewhat important. They voted for Newt over Mitt 47% to about 20% (depending on how you interpret the numbers).
40% claimed religion was of either not much or of no importance. They voted for Newt 33% vs Mitt at 39%.

@Frank Apisa,
Quote:
I, like many progressives of the time, voted for Reagan on his first run, because I was sorely disappointed in Carter and wanted to teach him a lesson.

Well, we succeeded. We taught him a lesson. America is STILL paying the price for that mistake.

That's certainly true, Frank, America is still paying a price for Reagan. But why is it always about America? Under Reagan, tens of thousands of innocent Nicaraguans were slaughtered. Reagan and his band of war criminals decimated a country that was coming around.

Quote:
FATHER MIGUEL D'ESCOTO: First of all, let me start out by saying that, of course, Reagan is now dead.
And I, for one, would like to say only nice things about him.
I'm not insensitive to the feelings of many U.S. people mourning president Reagan, but as I pray that god in his infinite mercy and goodness forgive him for having been the butcher of my people, for having been responsible for the deaths of some 50,000 Nicaraguans, we cannot, we should not ever forget the crimes he committed in the name of what he falsely labeled freedom and democracy.
More perhaps than any other U.S. President, Reagan convinced many around the world that the U.S. is a fraud, a big lie.
Self-determination of peoples
Not only was it [US policy] not democratic, but in fact the greatest enemy of the right of self-determination of peoples.

Reagan, as you mentioned just a few minutes ago, was known as the great communicator, and I believe that that is true only if one believes that to be a great communicator means to be a good liar.
That he was for sure.
He could proclaim the biggest lies without even as much as blinking an eyelash.
Hearing him talk about how we were supposedly persecuting Jews and burning down non-existent synagogues, I was led to believe really, that Reagan was possessed by demons.
Frankly, I do believe Reagan at that time — as much as Bush today — was indeed possessed by the demons of manifest destiny.
Of course, as I say this, I'm quite aware that to the people of say for example, Project for a New American Century, that is counted as a big plus.

Why is there never any measure of truth coming from any of you Americans? You know of these sordid events, you know of the murders, the rapes the torture and what do we get this same sentiment, even from Obama, "aww, America has suffered thru so much".

@Cycloptichorn,
Thanks for the tip, Cy. I actually knew that but it was buried in the deep recesses of my mind.

I wonder how come you got voted down for offering a good piece of advice. Confused

A GOP insider has stated that if Gingrich is the nominee, Obama will win 45 states.

Meanwhile the odds have gone up for Obama on intrade. (Almost 56% compared to 53% yesterday.)

Obama is one lucky son of a bitch. It is mind boggling that the GOP will not run a quality candidate against him. This all will not go down well with the America people however, as we already know that we are fucked for the next five years, that there is zero chance of getting quality leadership out of Washington before then. The odds of revolution just doubled.

What's so mind boggling about that, Hawk. They have none. They haven't had any for at least 40 years.

What's truly mind boggling is the last three Repug prezes that have been elected by, purportedly, sentient beings.

That would be because the voting system is fit for children, not a place where ideas are argued. It is a major embarrassment that it is still here.

You unnecessarily malign children, Hawk. These "votes" come from "adults". I think they can be very instructive - they certainly say a lot [granted, not much that is positive] about those who use them.

Gird your loins.
There is yet another Repub debate tomorrow night. The scene moves to Tampa, I believe. I don't know what the candidates have left to say to each other and we can probably expect the moderator(s) to throw soft balls.
Tuesday night will see Obama's State of the Union address.

I sure hope so. Let the candidates take each other on - no need to give them the media as a target.

@ehBeth,
Yea, Romney claims he created net 100,000 jobs at Bains, but he still hasn't shared now he will create jobs as President. Does he know that there's a difference between "cutting government spending" which results in cutting jobs, and the creation of jobs? How does he intend to create net jobs growth?

Well...I'm seeing lots of it here in this forum now.

I forgot to point this out earlier, but you should try reading Conservative forums. The prevailing mood there is despair and disbelief.

What's the 2nd amendment? Is that a soil additive that farmers use?

@JTT,
It's my understanding that the administration is breaking out the champagne because Newt won SC. Newt doesn't have a prayer on the national stage; even his own party charged him with unethical behavior while speaker.

Does our politics get any more comical?

Newt would be our first 25 hour a week president in like forever. I am still trying to decide if that is a plus or not.

The state of the union under Obama is pathetic - he must not be elected to a 2nd term.
