How dare anyone talk about the past of a Presidential candidate.

Unless of course they were a community organizer. That's fair game.

You evidently failed to grasp the point being made.

@Ticomaya,
I grasped it quite well. You don't give a damn about his past.

How in the world did you come to the conclusion that I though Gingrich's past isn't fair game?

He is, but he's no more of a dumbass than all the other candidates.

He does not have much charisma.

I saw Ron Paul on Face the Nation today.

Tho I 've always favored his love of freedom,
I find his extreme pacifism intolerable qua political viability.

True ... but then again it's difficult to convey charisma on an Internet forum.

@Ticomaya,
I can vote for Gingrich with no problem.
He is a good American; moderate conservative,
but he has little charisma on TV.

@OmSigDAVID,
Would you vote for him if he runs as a 3rd party candidate, David?

Such a vote (splitting) woud be a vote for obama; not a good idea.
I am CONFIDENT that he will not do that.

On the other hand, I encountered an off the cuff speech Gingrich made
(c.14 minutes) to the NRA, wherein he does not yell nor pound the table,
but he reflects competence n credit upon himself. He can be quietly articulate.

@OmSigDAVID,
I agree with you that the best strategy for the Repubs is to unite under a "Beat Obama" banner even if it means holding their noses when they step into voting booths.
I have said before, though, that Paul is 76 years old. It is his last go round and I could well see him, as he has hinted, run as an Indy.

As an outsider I agree that Gingrich is not an idiot, and neither is Romney. You can't say that of any of the other candidates though. I'm amazed that anyone could consider any of them suitable for the most powerful position on Earth.

http://ontheissues.org/2008/Newt_Gingrich_Welfare_+_Poverty.htm
Newt Gingrich, the soon-to-be Republican Speaker of the House, was eager to flex his muscle. Minor controversy erupted over remarks he made about welfare reform and orphanages. Some Republicans had suggested that the nation could reduce welfare rolls by placing the children of welfare mothers in orphanages. The idea was to prohibit states from paying welfare benefits for two groups of children: Those whose paternity was not established and those born out of wedlock to women under 18. The savings, according to this proposal, would be used to establish and operate orphanages and group homes for unwed mothers.
I thought this was a horrible idea. In a speech before the New York Women's Agenda on Nov. 30, 1994, I criticized Gingrich.

Gingrich swung back: "I'd ask her to go to Blockbuster and rent the Mickey Rooney movie about Boys Town [an orphanage]. I don't understand liberals who live in enclaves of safety who say, 'Oh, this would be a terrible thing.'"
