Romney, for all that the GOP base hates him, really does have the best chance of beating Obama.

@Cycloptichorn,
Would that be because he actually speaks English?

I'm going to go out on a limb and make a finite prediction (so people can point out how wrong I was later)... I think Romney will end up being the Republican Nominee in 2012.
I still think it's going to be Romney vs Obama. Seemed obvious from the beginning. I wrote the above prediction on page 2 of this thread. I don't think anything's changed.

@roger,
I think Mr Romney will win the nom. I don't think the others have a prayer. I don't see him winning the presidency though. Unless something happens of course.

Newt tonight speaking at Harvard: Fire the janitors in schools and pay the 14-16 year old kids to take care of their schools.
It was, of course, the start of a more complicated answer to a rhetorical question.
Watch this story tomorrow.
What was he saying?

@firefly,
Nah, I only answer my phone to people I know. I was pulverized by rabid ridiculous phone calls and faxes (faxes?) when I moved here, and finally sprung for caller i.d. That took me years to do.

Hilary is not a plus to me, she's more right than Obama and wished for Ghaddafi's demise straight out before his.... demise. Not a woman with a sense of procedural propriety. Ah, well, that just a fine point.

Something very silly and designed to elicit sympathy from those whose heads are a bit confused and like to hear a simple policy initiative now and again. Had he said he would fire the schools in toto we might be justified in taking some notice.

Fred Barnes of the Weekly Standard is a long time advocate of the Republicans. I have respected his political analysis for several cycles.
"If 2012 were an ordinary year," he writes, Gingrich would be doomed because of his gaffes, three marriages, and alliances with Hillary on health care and Pelosi on global warming.
But 2012 is different. It is all about defeating Obama. Despite his "lurid past" and "penchant for self-destruction," the Republicans will swallow hard and nominate Gingrich.
Hardly a ringing endorsement.

@realjohnboy,
I think we can't have him win, simply for the name jokes.

our president was turned into a newt.

it's ok, he'll get better...

Debates between Obama and Gingrich, if structured right, would be awesome to watch.

@Ticomaya,
If he's the nominee he has my vote too.

I guess Farmerman's definition of "susbtance" requires thinking like a liberal.

I just think that his past is going to be dredged up, and it is going to appear likely that he won't be able to beat Obama.

None of these candidates represent my first choice and all have drawbacks (some greater than others), but any of them, in my opinion, is preferable to Obama winning a second term.

<sarcasm>
How dare anyone talk about the past of a Presidential candidate.

Unless of course they were a community organizer. That's fair game.
