Surprise! Latinos For Trump Founder Is A Real Estate Scammer

By Karoli Kuns

9/02/16 11:11am

One of the really scummy things to come out of the Great Recession were the predatory real estate scammers who crawled out of the woodwork to promise families they'd help save their houses, only to actually take their money.

It turns out Mr. "Taco Trucks On Every Corner" Latinos for Trump founder Marco Gutierrez was one of those. Here is his LinkedIn profile, screencapped here for posterity.

According to HERA, a non-profit state organization which helps people with housing issues, Gutierrez is a serial scammer. In their 2013-2014 Annual Report, they describe their own dealings with him, when his abuses of immigrants and their loan modifications came to light.

Abuses leveled at immigrants can be particularly vicious. As part of a foreclosure rescue scam, Marco Gutierrez bullied and intimidated HERA’s monolingual Spanish-Speaking homeowner client, charging over $16,000 for a loan modification. He took the homeowner’s car as partial payment but never changed registration, racking up unpaid tickets under the homeowner’s name. When HERA helped the homeowner complain to authorities, the scammer filed a meritless lawsuit against the homeowner (and against a HERA staffer). In the course of defending the case, HERA discovered that Gutierrez was a serial litigant who had filed dozens of actions against his “clients”. Gutierrez was using the court system to bully vulnerable residents across several counties into paying amounts they did not owe him and to retaliate against those who complained about his practices. After defeating Gutierrez’s claims HERA brought a successful vexatious litigant motion against Gutierrez. As a result, both HERA’s client and countless other unrepresented homeowners who might have fallen prey to Gutierrez’s tactics are now protected......................

@revelette2,
You know I'm saving that one, bless your heart...

I may have to improve it with some New Mexican chile. And more garlic, as I'm garlic mad.

@ossobucotemp,
I used to be, but, I have acid reflux, garlic ain't too bad, chile?, might as well put a match down my belly. I thought it looked good and fairly easy too. Was thinking about the messy grated tomatoes...

@ossobucotemp,
Hey, Revelette, ehBeth, Bobsal, Izzy, and others interested in Morocco history, customs, food for sure - I agree a Morocco thread could work out. Who's up?
Rev doesn't like starting threads but has good ideas, and is learning to do it; ehBeth is great at it, busy life; I, the olden non temporary ossobuco, had 49 pages of topics at 25 topics a page. Lots of those are total zero duds, some desultory duds, and some weren't bad, if I do say so. I could start it, but as many of us know, my computer can fail at any time and does, soon (or when) for the last time, but I imagine a Morocco thread could last, however slowly or perking at any given time. We could use a good captain..

How the NYT described another racist demagogue in 1922
The Nov. 21, 1922 article -- headlined "New Popular Idol Rises in Bavaria" - offers a profile of the 33-year-old leader of the so-called Bavarian Fascisti.

While the paper accurately characterizes Hitler's hatred toward Jews and the popularity of his vitriolic public speeches, the Times also quotes sources who were just a bit off the mark.

The Times wrote: "Several reliable, well-informed sources confirmed the idea that Hitler's anti-Semitism was not so genuine or violent as it sounded, and that he was merely using anti-Semitic propaganda as a bait to catch masses of followers and keep them aroused, enthusiastic, and in line for the time when his organization is perfected and sufficiently powerful to be employed effectively for political purposes."

The Times also quoted an unnamed politician who said Hitler was being politically deft for exaggerating his anti-Semitism.

"You can't expect the masses to understand or appreciate your finer real aims," the newspaper quoted the politician as saying. "You must feed the masses with cruder morsels and ideas like anti-Semitism. It would be politically all wrong to tell them the truth about where you really are leading them."

Sound familiar? More at link.

Trump surrogate and pastor: I ‘overstated’ my biography
Source: The Hill

A black pastor and vocal supporter of Donald Trump admitted he exaggerated his background Friday night as CNN teases a heated interview to air Saturday morning.

“As a young man starting my church in Greenville, South Carolina, I overstated several details of my biography because I was worried I wouldn’t be taken seriously as a new pastor,” Pastor Mark Burns said in a statement late Friday. "This was wrong. I wasn’t truthful then and I have to take full responsibility for my actions.

“Since that time I should have taken steps to correct any misrepresentations of my background. We all make mistakes, and I hope that the measure of my character and the quality of my works speak for what kind of person I am.”
. . .
CNN is set to air an interview with Burns Saturday morning on "New Day" detailing “multiple inaccuracies in the pastor’s bio, including his service in the U.S. Army Reserves, his education and more.”

@bobsal u1553115,
I saw the interview on CNN. It was almost painful to watch this sell-out phony squirm, lie and finally get up and walk out of an interview being conducted in his own church - leaving the interviewer and CNN crew and driving away.
Trump can sure pick 'em,

@snood,
I haven't seen it yet, but I will. The part of his "apology" I think is telling is when he writes, "This was wrong. I wasn’t truthful then and I have to take full responsibility". It should have been, "This was wrong. I wasn’t truthful then and I take full responsibility."

I don't think he's owned it yet and his apology is purely pro forma, let alone he started right off with a rationalization: "because I was worried I wouldn’t be taken seriously as a new pastor ..."
