I just found a cool time-waster website for people who like to write. You can type or paste in whatever you want and it will analyze your writing and tell you who you write like. I just wrote this little blurb off the top of my head,
"I was driving to the store the other day, a Wednesday, I believe, a cloudy, cold Wednesday with drizzle intermittently being slapped away by my AMCO wiper blades, blades, incidentally, not unlike the blades I had used to shave that early morning, when I noticed a girl, not scared, not running, but sitting, sitting right down and what looked to me like praying, if you can believe that! She was not 200 yards from me when I slammed the brakes on, and I saw her golden curls twist in the air around her, air that had been moist and spermatazoan, but now dried instantly on her skin as the sight of my Dodge Caravan barrelled down upon her,"
and it told me I write like Vladimir Nabokov, which is interesting, because I was actually going for David Foster Wallace, who has been compared to Nabokov many times. So maybe there is something to this site.
It's not a perfect science, but just for interesting fun, check out the site and tell me who you write like!
Here's the link. Let us know what you think.
iwl.me
According to the site, I write like Dan Brown. I'm hanging my head in shame...

and got, i write like stephen king
@kickycan,
i copied this text from a thread i started
we all know that 43.7% of all statistics are really just made up to support a position, but what about facts, i believe that most of them are made up in much the same way (just check the political threads if you don't believe me), folks link to sources that claim to support their cause, but that's the problem, their cause, not mine (unless you and i share similar views, and i very much doubt that)
so please, don't let your friends spout facts, encourage them to share their opinions, not the blathering of some fat headed expert (97.2% of all experts just make up their facts anyway)
and got, i write like david foster wallace
so king or wallace eh
damn, i'm either gonna be rich or dead
2nd try. H. P. Lovecraft.??
Now I'm going to have to look him or her up..
@Ceili,
totally cool, I would have been thrilled to have been labeled H. P Lovecraft.
hmmm, I've never read horror. I guess I'll start.
Ha, I read in some forum or blog somewhere that Stephen King comes up a lot for some reason.
I just put in the first several lines from the book of Genesis and it said I write like James Joyce.
David Foster Wallace
2nd attempt Cory Doctorow....when I clicked his name, it took me to Amazon, which said.....Related Searches: dan brown, david foster wallace, h p lovecraft
I write like H. P. Lovecraft!
Just tried it again with a completely different text I wrote, and same thing, H. P. Lovecraft.
@kickycan,
Why would you ever want to waste time?
Secondly I think it's stupid to try and find out who you "write like". YOU write like YOU.(Novel concept I know) You shouldn't want to be anything but original.
Cory Doctorow? Never heard of him.
Cory Doctorow - never heard of him and I am supposed to write like him.
I write like Stephen King.
I write like Stephen King?
I write like I write.
I write like I write.
I write like I write.
I write like I write.
I write like I write.
I write like I write.
I write like I write.
Rinse and repeat.
