US President Barack Obama's trip to India next month is set to be the biggest ever by any US president in terms of the protocol and logistics.

Headlines Today accessed the details of elaborate arrangements that will be in place to guard Obama during his three-day trip beginning on November 6. He will be accompanied by US first lady Micehlle Obama and their daughters Malia and Sasha.

The US president will make a historic trip to the Taj Mahal along with his family on November 7. His visit is historic in terms of logistics which is the largest ever for a visiting US president.

The presidential entourage will have 40 aircraft, including the Air Force One that will ferry the president. There will be six armoured cars, including the Barack Mobile, a Cadillac.

The Cadillac limousine is equipped with a mini communication centre to enable Obama to be in touch with the White House, US vice president and the US strategic command. It also has the US nuke launch codes and the nuclear switch for the president. It can also withstand a chemical or germ warfare or even a bomb attack.

Three Marine One choppers will be reassembled in India to ferry Obama and his family. These helicopters will also assist in evacuation in case of an emergency.

Moreover, 30 sniffer dogs will be put on service to boost the security arrangements during Obama's visit.

@saab,
I only tend to look at the cost of Presidential travel when I perceive that the objective is partisan politics. Someone did report the estimated costs of his early trip abroad, to London, I believe. This one will probably run higher, and I hope it's necessary.

@saab,
Other than the fact he travels with his children, what makes you think it is any different than previous Presidents (adjusting for inflation and terrorist threats)? I'm sure at least Bush I & II and Clinton traveled in much the same manner. I only object if they buy souvenir T-shirts that say things like "I Went to India on Your Tax Money and You Had to Stay Home and Work".

Highly illustrative of just how much the world loves Americans. And, of course, why wouldn't they?

Yeah, you just never can tell when Malta will launch an all out nuclear war against the USA.

And that is exactly the point. Although I think that the kids will love the trip, I am not too pleased that I (and all the other U. S. taxpayers) have to pay for them.

@Phoenix32890,
It actually doesn't bother me - you get a President and you get their family. I don't know what the exact rules are, but I assume we paid for JonJon, Caroline, Patricia, Julie, Amy, Chelsea, Jenna and Barbara. They would all need Secret Service protection in this world, and the since Air Force One is taking off anyway it can't be much more for them to take up a seat. I doubt any of these kids ate much. The only way to avoid it would be to elect old people or sterile ones.

I wonder, are you equally displeased about having to pay for killing innocents abroad, Phoenix?

Does it irk you in the least paying for the spread of depleted uranium which causes deformed newborns and high cancer rates among children and adults?

Did it displease you having to spend tax dollars to have agent orange spread all over the Vietnamese countryside and people?

How about when a Reagan trained terrorist would, let me get this right, ...

"With the children forced to watch they castrate the father, they peel the skin off his face, they put a grenade in his mouth and pull the pin. With the children forced to watch they gang-rape the mother, and slash her breasts off. And sometimes for variety, they make the parents watch while they do these
things to the children."

I guess that all these things could be considered "learning experiences" for those children too.

@Green Witch,
Yeah, the kids will need their own protective detail, but if it weren't in India, it would be in the US. No extra wages, and no extra material costs. First lady is presumed to have some usefull function.

@JTT,
Really, JTT, Phoenix is obviously talking about picking up the tab for the kids' mango ice creams and a couple of twin beds added to the Presidential suite. I hardly think you can compare these sundry travel funds she is forced to contribute to and the funding of government atrocities (which all parties are guilty of).

@roger,
That's what I mean. It's not like we have to pay for Air Force Sesame Street, and it's the job of the presidential spouse to be an unpaid diplomat - we can at least make sure she gets a decent on-flight meal.

@Phoenix32890,
So, if you are President you can't take your kids on a business trip?

Have you no sense of decency Phoenix?

So that means he will be completely out of communications with the govt while in the car and while traveling in India.
How is that a good thing?

@mysteryman,
how do you figure that he'll be out of communication when he'll be travelling in the Cadillac with the communication centre while in India (it's part of what you quoted)

@ehBeth,
I think mysteryman's point is that it's a mini communications center. That means that Obama will only be able to send and receive very small communications while he's in the car. And I agree with MM. That can't be good for America.

Actually, the more mini his communications with America, the better.

@ehBeth,
Im applying the same logic that the left used against Bush after 9/11.
On that day, when he was in AF-1, the left said he was out of communication with the rest of the govt.
They claimed he couldnt communicate from AF-1, even though it has one of the best commo systems on the planet.
So, it stands to reason that Obama will also be out of communication with the rest of the govt while he is either in the limo or on AF-1.
