@panzade,
She's a bit twee pan. Barby like. All togged up to please men. It must make the feminists gnash their teeth in enraged frustration. And think of facing her when you had fumbled a touchdown uninterfered pass in the end zone on 4th down and inches and leading by 6 with a minute to go and the other side grab an onside kick and in one drive get a touchdown of their own to win the match by one point.

But the teeth!! Man theyzz sum babe.

Rhys sent me an email picking Atlanta in tonight's game. I am missing only CoastalRat.
We are evenly split, with 11 of us choosing the Falcons and 11 going for the Ravens.

AndyClubber reports that he got a call Monday from the editor of his new novel coming out in early 2011. The publisher is in LA and the editor is in Phoenix. The editor questioned a piece a dialogue where a character from here in the mountains of Virginia says "I might could do that." Andy had to explain that that is a common usage here.

Week #10

Thursday night, Nov 11
BALT (restating my earlier pick)

Sunday (Nov 14th) -early-
TN
CLEVE - Browns JUST found their very solid Defense and made Brady and Brees look like chumps. Hillis is dangerously hot; Jets somehow lost their ability to run - their strong suit. They've become turn-over prone & were lucky to beat Detroit. However, if Browns start the rookie QB McCoy (only had 3 starts) he could get exposed as the rookie he is. QB Wallace is no bargain as alternate choice.
INDY
MINN - no idea what Favre will bring to this game but Chicago doesn't seem to be stiff competition.
BUFF
TB BUCS
JAX - Stab in the dark so I'll go with the home team

Sunday late-
KC - total stab in the dark
NYG
SF
AZ

Sunday night-
PITT

Monday night-
PHIL - the Michael Vick show - end of story!
Tie-breaker - 24-17

@panzade,
Another phrase that caught the editor's ear was "mighty powerful." He understood it if followed by something like "truck" or "drink." But not if it came before the word "mountain."

Rhys sent me the full list of his picks:
Atlanta
Tenn
Cleveland
Indy
Chicago
Buffalo
Tampa Bay
Jacksonville
Kansas City
Dallas
St Louis
Arizona
New England
Washington (31-24)

Rhys, who is not on A2K, emails me his picks from the Fantasy Football game where we both play. He includes some often witty comments about the matchups but has asked me not to quote them here. Having said that, I can't resist this:
Regarding the Chicago-Minnesota game, he writes "I pick Chicago. Just because I don't care for purple uniforms. Purple looks good on an eggplant or even Barney the dinosaur. But not uniforms."

The Falcons win has extended my lead over JPB and Ragman. It was a very close run affair. That Ray Rice is a bit frisky.

I fell asleep at 14-0 and when the beer biology woke me up there was 2 minutes left and the Ravens were leading 21-20.

Why are penalties sometimes declined?

@spendius,

an accepted penalty costs the offending team yardage, but they do not lose a down.
depending on field position, the opposing team will often decline an offensive penalty that occurs on 3rd down, so they can get the ball back...

@Region Philbis,
Thanks RP. It's good of you to try to educate a gump.

But I still don't get it. Why is it not still 3rd down for the offense with a loss in yardage? It sounds as if it can be an advantage to incur a penalty. I presume the offense knows that the defense will decline. Why not make it automatic 4th down and a yardage loss?

@spendius,
The team who has been "abused" by an abuse of the rules gets to decide if they will let the play stand or accept the penalty instead of the play. For example, if it's 3rd down and 2 to go for a first down and the offense does something that results in a 10-yard penalty, then the defense has to decide if they're going to accept the penalty (making it 3rd and 12) or decline the penalty letting the play stand (4th and 2, assuming there was no gain on the play). Depending on the circumstances of the game (time remaining, score, location of the line of scrimmage, etc). The defense may decide they'd rather make it 4th down (decline the penalty) than accept it (giving the offense another chance to make a first down).

@spendius,
Another classic example is when the offense commits a foul, but the play results in a turnover (fumble recovery or an interception by the defense). The defense will decline the penalty, let the play stand, and take possession of the ball as a result of the turnover.

Or... if there's a defensive penalty on a play that results in a touchdown. The offense will decline the penalty and keep the touchdown.

There are some exceptions but, in general, if the penalty is accepted then it's as if there was no play.

@JPB,
Thanks JPB. That was a brilliant explanation. I see now. RP was overestimating my intelligence.

Now I understand it I can see that it's similar to the ref at our football playing the advantage rule on a foul.
